Bijan VIP for Men by Bijan

A melange of Mambo and Curve Soul...not bad, but certainly not VIP. I do actually enjoy both Mambo and Curve Soul (can't believe I am admitting it). They don't last worth anything but possess a tropical (sweet and salty but wet) night time going to a noise-making affair quality, and VIP is not any different. It is obviously a Bijan however, because it has that one signature Bijan twang.
A good cheapie, at least very soon when the price drops to next to nothing.

Hummer by Hummer

This is one of those frags I would never buy, thanks to the name. I mean seriously, what does HUMMER have to do with frageances? Anyway, I came across a sample, and I figured, well at least give it a try....
My first impression was, WOW, this actually smells good! Not original, but good. It reminded me right away of Spark by Claiborne with a dab of Gucci Nobile. It isn't particularly well formulated, but it is a good 'cheapie'. Good enough that I would actually buy this and wear it. Like many said, forget the name...and don't tell anyone what you are wearing!

Very Valentino pour Homme by Valentino

Sweet baby powder, good sillage though it is very friendly...doesn't shout or scream. It is soft, hardly masculine, more androgenous...I suppose like the man himself :)
I prefer to wear this at night as a "night" scent before bed. It is soft, soothing and comforting, like velvet. Worth a try.

Dunhill Fresh by Alfred Dunhill

I get a fresher version of Fahrenheit by Dior. I did not get a chance to test it thoroughly or on my skin, but the correlation to Fahrenheit was def there, as many people mentioned. Can't wait to spend more time with it. I do like this though, so far.

Cerruti Image Fresh Energy by Cerruti

A very good twist...doesn't stray too far from the original. I thought the original was energetic already, but the energy in this lim ed version is obvious. It's not sweet, a bit citrus spicy. SirSlarty is on point...yuzu (a Japanese kinda grapefruit) and mint in the opening...a bit off putting, but as distortech pointed out it gets better as it wears...way better. Excellent flanker, if you can find it buy it...that is if you liked the regular Image.

GF Ferré Lui / Him by Gianfranco Ferré

Azzari Visit rebottled. Maybe not completely but it is hard to tell the difference. GF is a little sweeter, maybe smoother, but these 2 are brothers without a doubt. No nutmeg here, but it is in Visit...both also have cedar.
Smells like sweetened spices (nutmeg, cardamom, coriander) tempered with cedar, although the spices can be too much for some. I love visit, so by default, I must love this iteratrion...that is how close they are in smell. Also, GF comes off a bit more modern than Visit, this is a good thing.

Gucci by Gucci pour Homme by Gucci

This is good. It is very good. Awesome scent, perfect launch time. This is in the family of that sweet, rum rasin cake, fall/christmasy, goodness. Think Varvatos Vintage, Burberry London, Banana Republic Black Walnut and Claiborne's Spark. The only difference is that Gucci comes in and delivers a knockout, enough to make you want to replace any of the aforementioned you might own, save for the Burberry, maybe. It goes to show that the house of Gucci is not koje when it come to their frags...just outstanding! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Canali Men by Canali

Hmmm. I have to sample this again...cause my nose tells me Canali is "I am too good for Davidoff Cool Water but can't afford Creed's Green irish Tweed". But everyone keeps talking about fruits and stuff...I don't get that.
It does have this aura of 'I wear a suit all day" too. I will try this again and see.
20 September 2008

Pasha by Cartier

Elegant India. Or maybe middle to far east region in general, but the most important thing is that Pasha is elegant. I get the most refined Drakkar Noir type scent...so even waaay better then Gucci Nobile. Very clean as opposed to DN's virile dirty, then the mint comes in to take your breath away. Exotic and nice.
20 September 2008

Santos by Cartier

Meat. That's what I get. OK, that is a little extreme, but just as with Declaration, I get a meat association with Santos. In declaration, it is more of a spicy salami. With Santos it is the same salami but as a dried 'jerky'. Outside of that, it is a very manly 70s larger than life frag, recalling G. Ferre, Antaeus etc. Please don't let the meat association scare you off, its just the spice and lavender that does it. My nose also tells me Carolina Herrera frags smell like fried food. So maybe it is just me.
20 September 2008

Gendarme by Gendarme

Everybody says clean...because this frag is simply the fragrance of several hand soaps (think SoftSoap) and shampoos out there. Head and Shoulders, Pert Plus etc. So naturally you would associate it with clean. This is cheating in my opinion...I really doubt Gendarme 'discovered' this scent combo and then made it available to Proctor and gamble and who ever else makes shampoo and soaps. But at the same time, of you've been looking for the cologne that smells just like one of your fav shampoo and hand soap, Gendarme is the one to turn too. So, I say neutral.

Ed Hardy Man by Christian Audigier

Suprised by all the thumbs up...this came across as generic to me. A blend of Givnechy Pi and CK Euphoria. Granted i really enjoy these scents, especially since the sneeze inducing opeining in Pi is not present here at all. I just find it hard to grant it a glowing review since it lacks originality. It has a run of the mill vibe to it, but overall it is very well executed. the bottle sucks too...looks like a cheap dollar store offering. Neutral for me.

Marc Jacobs for Men by Marc Jacobs

I like this. Fig and coconut in the opening. It is one of the better done coconuts...as long as you wear it in hot weather. Don't think anyone should rock coconut unless it is sunny and hot anyway. There are beeter offerings for a men's cocnut, but they are considerably more expensive (CREED Virgin Island Water for one), besides, this manages to be dressy...think island wedding, whether you are the groom or just a guest.

M; Men by Masakï Matsushïma

WOW! If you are a fragrance conosuier and have not sampled this you are utterly missing out. This stuff is excellent. My initial thougt was grapefruit and pineapple, but it is so much more than that. it is sweet, but not ina femme way at all. Dimitri is very correct with the statement "Beyond Issey Miyake" I most definately want to try everything from this house, and every other Japanese maker out there. I MUST HAVE THIS.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!.

Blue Sugar by Aquolina

To my nose, this smells nothing like Black XS without the strawberries, instead it (I couldn't believe it) smelled exactly like caramelized sugar...as in pour some sugar in a pan and light the fire and stir the sugar. More shockling is when I got on BN and saw the notes actually contain caramelized sugar. I am not sure why anyone would like to smell like this, and I actaully prefer A*Men to this, sure it is synthetic, but that is what makes it wearable...it is obviously cologne and not some sort of baking product.
Neutral only becaus it is daring, otherwise thumbsdown.
18 September 2008

Perry Ellis for Men (new) by Perry Ellis

I was really looking forward to this, but I was dissapointed. Take Beyond Paradise by Estee Lauder and add a dash of vanilla...voila! you have this Perry Ellis. Beyond Paradise is kinda melony sweet but severyl tempered with a dark tea note. This is almost exactly the same save for the vanilla that is hanging out in the background. I ma neither thrilled or impressed.

Deseo for Men by Jennifer Lopez

I feel bad for J Lo. It was a nice try but this first venture into mens' frags is a D, very close to an F.
First, this is a barely remixed copy of Tommy Bahama Very Cool plus Set Sail South Seas. So much so that I swore Coty Prestige must also own T. Bahama and they just sold the TB juice under a different label.
The frag opens up a dark sweet green, very relaxed and attractive, inviting you to keep sniffing. Then about 30 mins into its life, the Set Sail South Seas shows up...then the Very cool. Super synthetic, the cool mint from TB Very cool assaulting your nose so much so that you just can't stand it anymore.
Sorry J Lo. but this is not a winner. Hire me, and I will give you the hook up.
18 September 2008

Vetiver Sport by Guerlain

This immediately recalled Kouros Sport Cologne...with a dash of the original Vetiver hanging in the background. So close the 2 that is hard to justify purchasing the other if you already have one of the two.
Basically a very strong fizzy lemon, and it smells like a combo of 3 or more different types of lemons. It is very summery and casual, I guess that is what 'sport' means nowadays.
18 September 2008

Clean Men by Clean

Lemons and baby wipes...some say old lady...all true. But the genius of this frag is that it stays very strong and sharp for a long time. Is it clean? to me no, more like a household cleaner, something specifically designed for a baby's room. Reminds me of Bulgari BLV and a little of BLV Notte.
18 September 2008

Vintage by John Varvatos

I idin't realiza there were 2 offerings fom Varvatos...I erroneously gave the review for Vintage to the regular JV.
Weell, as most mentioned, pumkin spice. I say rum raisin cake...but I think you get the idea. It is an excellent fall/holiday fragrance, much along the lines of Burberry London (rectangular bottle with the cloth around it) and especially like Liz Claiborne Spark. The differences between the 3 is very little, but I think Burberry London is the better of this trio.
18 September 2008

Ma Dame by Jean Paul Gaultier

CoL above is right on...very modern and 'today'. It is kinda unisex too, if you like light quirky scents. I think the bottle says it all: a modern sexiness encased in a delicate freshness. Sour orange does the unisexiness, the grenadine does the sexiness and the rose the delicate. Worth the money and wroth a try. Excellent all around.
11 September 2008

Fluid Woman by Iceberg

Suprise that ther ar eno reviews. This stuff is good. it is undoubtedly synthetic but in a very good way. It starts out much like the accent color indicates: red, crystal/glassy red vibrant see through red. What does 'red' smell like? Think berries and red wine. Fluid then adds a everpresent feminine talc. The talc is soft and comforting, gets stronger as it dries down. It stays close to the skin and it is delightfully modern. I like it.
Certainly worth a try.
11 September 2008

Wolfgang Joop by Joop!

Wow. Quite possibly the best offering from Joop!
This for me, unseats the great original Joop for men. It is so well done and put together that it deserves to be in everybody's collection.

Sweet and spicy, with an edge of vanilla. That summarizes it. But the sweetness and spiciness are unmistakably manly.
I really enjoy Dunhill Pursuit for men, but something about it leaves me wanting. It smells good, but I don't feel like I must keep smelling it. Wolfgang Joop is Dunhill Pursuit to the 3rd power. The sweetness in Joop makes all the difference. One sniff and I was hooked. I subsequently drenched myself in 12 sprays. Yes 12. It is that good.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
11 September 2008

Iquitos by Alain Delon

Lots of great reviews, but I think this is too feminine. It really smells like a fragrance an older woman in her 60s would enjoy. And why must there be a rose fragrance for men? Cacharel also tried this, though that offering is better.
Yes, the dry down is nice, but you can skip the feminine part and go strainght to the dry down by going with Michael by Michael Kors instead.
07 September 2008

Boss Pure by Hugo Boss

bright fresh sweet melony aquatic ozonic
Instantly reminded me of one of the Calvin Klein Eternity Summer versions, as in this Pure could have passed for CK Eternity Summer 2009.
It is nice...but no imagination whatsoever. Pure is pure mass market 'me too'. I am very dissapointed in Hugo Boss lately. Where is the imagination and audacity for crying out loud?!?!?!
Bring Baldessarini back...he came up with some of the best offerings at Hugo Boss.
06 September 2008

Pi Neo by Givenchy

Although not in the notes, what I get is a lemony opening and a vanillaic dry down.
The lemon is closest to that of the playful Versace Baby Blue Jeans, but not so strong. It is tempered to give off a subtle sweetness that is quite refreshing.
Shortly there after, a very light vanilla shows up, very hard to detect at first, but gets stronger yet subtle as it wears down. The overall effect is a very well done, masculine, anytime anyday fragrance. Although not groundbreaking ( I kept wondering why it smelled so familiar on my wrist), it is very good. My only complaint is the bottle and the colour of the juice. I really thought where gonna stick to the Pi bottle and get creative with the juice, neither of which they did.
I predict this will be a classic...a must have for collectors...
04 September 2008

Dunhill by Alfred Dunhill

A little Davidoff Goodlife and a little D&G ph...to my nose and on my skin anyway. I happen to like those 2 frags, although I think the D&G is not very elegant and hopelessly ubiquitous. Goodlife can be too sneezy thanks to the heavy citrus. Therefore, Dunhill is an excellent balance of the best of those 2 mentioned.
My favorite notes are the geranium and the tonka bean. They simply work together in harmony. Not a powerhouse scent, but a nice, simple, elegant scent. Not flashy or flamboyant, yet confident and reassuring. And it garners lots of compliments, because it is a 'nice guy' kinda scent.

BTW: if you find Dunhill Pursuit attractive, you should like this. I see Pursuit as a South-Western US extra-urban dweller, while this Dunhill being a NYC city slicker.

Kölnisch Wasser by Farina Gegenüber

This is completely different from the 4711 stuff. This is far better. It is citrusy sweet, gives your nose the same sensation as sucking on a super sweet orange. Truly unisex, it makes you want to smell it again and again. Highly recommended IF you can find it. I have access to it...PM me if you desire.

Monogram by Ralph Lauren

Smells like baby powder. Like one of Jonhson and Jonhson's baby powder. It is not as light and fresh however, it is somehow dark and gloomy? A little bit of incense in there somewhere...
I don't see what is so specail about this that it commands so much money online. It reminds me of one of the offerings from Amouage, but much much better. Not bad.
31 August 2008

Acteur by Azzaro

Rose. That's what I get. Plu some sort of incense. The combination transports me to India, where a ceremony is on going but not with a lot of people...a purification ceremony.
Anyway, if you like the smell of roses, you should love this. It is a clean masculine scent, though it can come across as airfreshener.

1 Million by Paco Rabanne

Just tried this today...didn't know what to expect...
It is light and semi-sweet in the opening...then the sweetness intensifies. After about 30 mins in 70 degree weather with humidity, it turned into "FCUK Him Intense"...
For those who like FCUK or know what it smells like, you will probably agree that it is somewhat weak and very synthetic. This is the opposite...somewhat strong (anise seed twang, much like Lolita Lempicka for men) and way less synthetic...so if you liked FCUK you will definately love this.
For me however, I think it is a bit too synthetic, it smells like a mild berry bubble gum/anise seed with a hint of frost. I see this as one of the many variations of the Ultraviolet scents from Paco. It also smells like Versace Metal Jeans.
Bottle is nice however, shaped like a piece of gold bullion.
29 August 2008

Romance Silver Men by Ralph Lauren

Nice...especially considering RL sold basically the same juice to rich folks in select markets as Purple Label for a lot more money. I find it far better than the original...not as generic. And the suede note is downright manly without being macho in your face.
I do think that the name is off though...I don't think this is romantic...rather it is meant for the wearer to enjoy. It has a more relaxed, down to earth, hanging out vibe to it...not formal at all like the original Romance can be. This relaxed nature is more obvious with Purple Label, which lacks the make-you-sneeze opening.
Worth the money...just don't expect it to be a formal romantic.

New West for Him by Aramis

This stuff is awesome. It is very different fom just about any and everything I have tried. I actually got a compliment from a female co-worker...after 6+ hours of applying this stuff!!!
If you can find it buy it, it is expensive but worth it. If you are a collector, or you just like specail frags, this is your cup of tea. I love it.
Don't miss Tuscany as well, also very well done.
24 August 2008

Tuscany / Etruscan by Aramis

This stuff is good, period dot. I remember a similar scent from when I was a kid growing up in Nigeria, and only the rich during specail occasions rocked this. I see it as an Italian Kouros (not cologn sport, but the original in the opaque white bottle), there are spices in there that does recall Tuscany to me.
For those who think its sillage/longevity is weak...it isn't, you are simply experiencing olfactory fatigue: others can smell it, you can't. And if you overspray, it can become much for the wearer and those around you.
I highly recommend it if you are an 80s head...and like Foetidus said, it is more wearable today than most other 80s frags. I really like it...but best as a once in a whiler, so you don't get sick of it. Several thumbs up.
BTW: New West is also worth trying, to me no collection should be without these 2.
24 August 2008

273 Indigo for Men by Fred Hayman

Foetidus is right about the similarity, although I think it is closer to Blu Notte than the regular Blu. I do not like Blu Notte and I think Blu is OK...both are too baby powdery for me. Not bad for the price, but not a great scent IMO.
22 August 2008

Kenzo Power by Kenzo

This stuff is bad. I got a sample from Paris a few weeks ago, and thought maybe it was just a bad sample. Then I tried a tester bottle, and the same thing...very bad. When I reviewed 7:15am in Bali, the other 'new' KENZO scent, I mentioned the fact that it smelled like a combination of 2 existing KENZO fragrances. I thinnk this is the same situation...smells like a combo of L'Eau par Kenzo and Kenzo pour homme. The result is very bad...there is a note that dominates, but I can't quite put a finger on what it is.
Stay clear...don't waste your time/money.
Quadriple thumbs down.
19 August 2008

Infusion d'Homme by Prada

I had the pleasure of sampling this today, and I think Iike it. It is obviously a much fresher version of the first offering by Prada: Amber Pour Homme. However, there is a "baby wipes" scent (very much like that of Bvlgari's BLV Notte) alongside the original, super soapy Amber. The overall effect is much like Guerlain's Vetiver. I normally find fragrances like that (Guerlain's Vetiver and Prada Amber ph) to be too soapy, too strong, and too in your face. Infusion is the perfect strangth for someone like me, and I find it very wearable. So much so that I sprayed about 10 shots on me, and I did not feel overwhelmed at all...compared to wanting to gag from just one spray of the Amber ph or Vetiver.

I give this a thimbs up, because Prada obviously recognizes the fact that the original might be a bit too much, and has decided to offer something of the 'smaller noses'.

If you like Thierry Mugler's Mugler Cologne, you should enjoy this sibling equally as well.
12 August 2008

Honey & Lemon by L'Occitane

An all natural alternative to Lolita Lempicka L. Just lovely! Smells like lemon vanilla cookies!
28 July 2008

Emporio Armani Diamonds for Men by Giorgio Armani

Got a sample of this today. Was curious though the female version was lacking. Quite simply, it follows in the footsteps of Paco Rabanne's Blaxk XS, Ralph Lauren's POLO Explorer and most recently Mont Blanc's Exceptionnel. It has that sweet (almost strawberry-ish) vibe with the somewhat icy background. This is only my first impression, as I am sure the more time I spend with it the more distinctive it will become.

Overall, not bad, however, it gets a neutral for lack of originality.
28 July 2008

CK In 2U POP Him by Calvin Klein

So I as at my favorite frag shop in Germany when I noticed In 2U POP him. I was not a fan of the original because it lacked depth and it seemed to be just a bunch of notes thrown together. POP on the other hand asserts itself without any apologies. I don't know what the POP is supposed to mean, but to my nose, it seems like it is a stronger 'intense' version, maybe it is supposed to 'pop' since the original didn't.

I really like this version. It smells like a really strong Herrera 212 plus an equally strong sweetness. It transitions a bit, the seetness dying down. Then after a few hours, it completely disappears (in hot humid weather anyway). If you did NOT like the original, there is a very good chance you will like this. If you did like the original you should absolutely LOVE this version.

BTW: I must say that I developed a 'tolerance' for the original In 2U after spending some time with the POP version.
28 July 2008

L'Eau par Kenzo pour Homme by Kenzo

Lots of people mention lemons, I get oranges, with a little peel. Then it gets bitter (still sweet) over time and fainter. Its linear, does not change much. Hot days are incomplete without this.
27 July 2008

Pheromone for Men by Marilyn Miglin

Yeah this is not great. The opening is messy and all over the place, so bad that it would make you puke (j_dubyah is on point with the 'acrid'/'rancid' comment) . As with many other fragrances with a messy opening, patience is the key. If you can hold off washing it off, it blossoms into the manly 'pheromone' name, and like EricM, I like it better once it has settled. That said, I think it is worse than the other pheromone offerings (Intuition and Realm), at least those are wearable and actually contain pheromones.

For me, there is nothing nice about this, I would wear it in very hot and humid weather as I imagine it would be disastrous in the winter.
27 July 2008

Touch With Love for Men by Fred Hayman

This is NOT bad. I think Otto review is unfair, besides it gives no indication as to what the frag smells like

That said, the opening is sweet, smells like pineapple to my nose (much like Burberry summer). It is very sweet, but tempered enough so it is not overberaing, yet strong enough that you will not mistake it sweetness. Then there is a transition that is hard to describe. The closest note would be pepper, but I am not sure it is. This not messes up the enjoyable pineapple sweetness. What follows is a soapy manliness that's somewhat pheromonic, though I doubt there are any pheromones in sight. I don't know what the regular Touch smells like, but I am guessing this manly development is the "with Love" part.

Overall, I think this is good, but not great. For the price it is worth a closer look. I recommend it for a post gym/workout body spray. Or for a hot and humid situation.
27 July 2008

Perry Ellis m by Perry Ellis

One of my faves. It is somewhat exotic, lasts very well. Cinnamon done very well. It shares the same theme but it is strong and bold yet sweet. Dries down to a nice talc that women crave.
21 July 2008

7:15 am in Bali by Kenzo

I was happy to find this and tested it right away. It starts out bright and orangey, tempered with a comfort cereal vanilla foody scent. I enjoyed it but then it turned feminine, revealing more of the milky vanilla angle. Later a masculine edge returned. The dry down isn't much different, citrusy and milky vanilla, just not as bright and crisp.

My conclusion: 2/3 Kenzo Armour, 1/3 Kenzo L'Eau for men. Maybe there is more to it, but I strongly think this is somewhat of a gimmick. Combine 2 existing products and call it unisex. It is surprisingly good though. And I like it.
20 July 2008

Ultrared Man by Paco Rabanne

Why this isn't unisex or even for women fo that matter is beyond me. There is very little that is masculine about this. It starts out very much like Black XS: super sweet with a berry twist, except Ultrared lacks the contrasting icy plus leather notes in Black XS. This leaves a sickly somewhat citrusy sweet vacuum...summery yes, but sooooo sweet!
Finally a semblance of masculine shows up in the form of tonka bean, at which point there is a faint resemblance to Kenzo Amour. Then the vanilla steps in and delivers the contrast that should have been in the begining.

Bottom line: not a masculine scent in any way shape or form, but a good summery for him and her fragrance, with energy and bright sunny outlook.
At least it smells nothing like the disastrous Ultraviolet Man.
17 July 2008

Set Sail South Seas for Men by Tommy Bahama

I couldn't wait to get my hands on this...but I was a tad disappointed. The first TB was a smokey yet attrractive manly fragrance. The second Very Cool, was indeed cool, icy actually, gave my nose a 'brain freeze' and i did not like it. The third was better, smells a lot like a margarita, and gives the impression of a good time. This fourth installment is like the second. It is cold and icy with a sweet manly edge. I think the violets are overpowering, and some people might like that. It can be addictive also, but for me it is a no. Now I am looking forward to the fifth version, I think I will like it.
10 July 2008

La Cologne Fleur du Male by Jean Paul Gaultier

This is a very well done flanker to the original FdM. I think the guys at JPG are near geniuses, because you can see and feel what they were thinking about. I'll explain: the first FdM came in a completely opaque bottle and the juice is just that: thick and difficult to see thru. The LCFdM version is clearer and somewhat icy or frosty...just like the bottle. It is fresher, less 'naughty-boy' and more 'sexy-confident-guy'. It has a slight animalic edge to it too that I really like, it's just the right does without being overpowering.
If you enjoyed FdM you should totally love this too. It's worth buying even if you already have FdM. RECOMMENDED.
10 July 2008

Dirty English by Juicy Couture

Comme des Garcon 2 Man immediately comes to mind here, as well as the obvious link to Gucci pour homme via that special camp fire smell. It is a bit sweet in the opening, kinda strawberryish, but not to worry, the sweetness is put in check by the said camp fire smell (amber). I think this is more for women to enjoy. Thumbs up for a well formulated fragrance, but there is no originaity here. Not surprised that this is a 'Liz" frag...she flat out copied D&G signature with the Realities fro men in the green/clear bottle. Now she is doing the same with this. At least Dirty English has a nice cool ring to it, Juicy Couture is doing well. Last long too.
10 July 2008

Deseo by Jennifer Lopez

I don't like it. And I am not going to spoil the all-thumbs-up so far. To me it smells cheap. The coconuty hint makes it a bit less creative. The idea is kinda cool and simple...it was supposedly inspired by the fragrances J Lo encountered one night in her garden as she was walking thru.
If you like strong defined scents, that are unmistakeable (Givenchy, Kenzo, Mugler) then this is not for you. If you like lightish lost in the crowd but still smells good (read forgetable) then buy this!
10 July 2008

Burberry the Beat by Burberry

This is certainly the Burberry for young girls. Although not teenager-ish, it is quite early 20s college girl somewhat wild fashion sporting wild flare but with a focus on luxury. Sorry I can't quite put my finger on what it smells like (clean, frash, flowery...) but it is certainly not a dissapointer. Try it you will like you.
10 July 2008

Krizia Uomo by Krizia

Classic Italian that is hard not to like, unless you are not into to classy old school scents. Italian country side is about the best description, especially since I just returned from Italy recently. It is hard not to see the connection.

I would not recommend this for the younger (under 40) guys...its just too classy I think...I see a custom tailor or a chef, Italian ofcourse...wearing this to work in the morning, on his bicycle riding along the coutryside.

Very well done, especially for the next to nothing prices these days. I like it. A lot.

by the way, I am under 40.
07 July 2008

JHL by Aramis

This is bad. You must be at least 70 to be able to wear this and pull it off. Smells like an old lady's perfume from teh 60s/70s with a dash of industrial grade lubricant (WD 40 maybe?). Anyway, not good, and very strong.
04 July 2008

Cristobal pour Homme by Balenciaga

For once just about everyone is rightone about this...I get the Joop!, Pi, Rochas etc. connection...as well as the Azzaro Pure Lavender and Escada Casual Friday. Lots of lavender in the opening for me, and then the Joop! note. Not bad, but it is not indulgent...good for some people, but bad for me. I want a frag to transport me to far exotic places, and to make my senses jump for joy. Cristobal just doesn't do that...it's a bit too safe. Non-theless, it's good.
04 July 2008

Héritage by Guerlain

Nuff reviews to get a good idea about this already, so I will not go over how elegant and gentlemanly, not to mention 'special occasion' air that Heritage is.

I have ESCADA ph and VERSACE Green Jeans...and both are brothers of Heritage. ESCADA came a year later and Green Jeans a few years later. I find Heritage to be a much older brother/uncle to the ESCADA ph, since it isn't as exuberant. That makes the Green Jeans a wild, punk-rocking teenage in this comparo.

Nicely done overall. If you detect the very slight metallic note in Heritage and you like it, the ESCADA is the way to go. If it is the greens/sweets you are after, well then the VERSACE is the way to go.

L'Air du Desert Marocain by Tauer

Wow, this stuff rocks! If you are a fan of exotic scents, this is a must try. My wife and I both love it. It is sweet (vanillaic), dry, cedar-woody, spicy in the background, strong with good sillage. One good spray on my test wrist lasted almost 24 hours, despite a shower and a few hand washing sessions (not scrubbing my wrist though).

Initially it was a bit much, but everytime I tried not to like it, I just couldn't. It kept beckoning for a closer deeper look, and it felt almost like a taboo...you feel you shouldn't but you just can't help but get close. It is so well formulated and richly blended that you can't help but like it.

I checked the Andy Tauer website and they have samples of everything they or rather he makes for a reasonable price and flat rate shipping anywhere in the world. The stuff is definately worth a second look.

Andy is very personable too...a real person that you can reach out to, he actually doesn't mind if you want to get to know him; how cool is that? I have never been a niche frag kinda person, but Tauer has def got my attention! A+++

Ungaro I by Ungaro

Deep and dark, as already mentioned, but not soo dark that it is gothic. Rather it is dark with some highlights, that keep you sniffing. On paper it is woody, mossy, a tinge of sweet here and there, very profound and well formulated. On my skin I get leather, lots and lots of leather, this after the Arabian vibe opening. Ezra by Abercrombie and Fitch comes to mind, its like A&F tried to render their version of this classic (but failed miserably). If you can find a sample, go for it, but I am not so sure it is worth what some of the prices I have seen recently.

Chaleur d'Animale pour Homme by Animale Parfums

This is good stuff. It starts out very close to Drakkar Noir/Gucci Nobile/Jivago Connect but then it transitions to a sweeter Dior Fahrenheit, the overall effect very similar to Paul Smith for men (clear green bottle) but much smoother and stronger. From then it transitions slightly to a clean fresh but warm scent constantly rewarding your nostrils. It stays close to the skin and is perfect for snuggling in cooler weather. Works well in the summer too for an energetic night. Considering the price, it is a must have. Just excellence, all the way round.

Portfolio Green for Men by Perry Ellis

First blast was cartainly a reminder of Dolce & Gabbana ph. Not a blatant copy like Realities by Liz Clairborne, but a few slight differences. Not as deep tobaccoey like D&G. Overall not a bad fragrance but it is a little cheap.

Capucci pour Homme by Roberto Capucci

Don't like it. My bottle must be bad or something, but then again, I do not like eau Sauvage, so maybe that's why. It smells old (70s/80s) with a skin musk showing up rather quickly. Just not worth it to me.

Polo Blue by Ralph Lauren

I did not want to comment on polo Blue because a lot of people already did. but then I saw this down-ward trend...basically Polo Blue bashing, and I had to say something.
First this is a good scent. It is not a copy of anything, and it is deep and pleasant. When it was released, it was my number one cologne, unseating the infamous Issey Miyake. Nowadays, 5 years later, a lot of frags have tried to do the 'blue' thing, but to me Polo Blue is the original BLUE scent.
So try it for yourself, it will disappear on some people, but trust that others can smell it on you even if you can't smell it on yourself.

Versace pour Homme by Versace

Boy, was I excited to learn about a new VERSACE fragrance. I sampled this today and its initial blacst was a citrus acquatic. I was dissapointed. Then as the day pregressed, I started smelling something familiar, but couldn't put my finger on it...then it clicked...ACQUA DI GIO! That's right...this is nothing but Versace's version of di Gio. Now my dissapointment turned to disgust. This is horrible. Gianni must be truning in his grave right now! Triple thumbs down!!

Diesel Zero Plus by Diesel

Wow, this is bad. As others mentioned, cinnamon waaaay overdone, with some baby powder like scent. It clashes, and it is not well executed at all. Very cool bottle though.

Cool Water Deep by Davidoff

It is as good as many have notes, starting off with the right amount of sweetness that is deep and satisfying; a dash of freshness that has a subtle sharpness to it and very good body. In warmer weather it turns into a wonderful nutmeg spice with a blue angle, rminiscent of Azzaro Visit and Kenzo Tokyo to my nose. It fades from there but delivering a cool whiff ever so often. As mentioned, it does NOT resemble the oriinal CW, which to me is just fine. I think this would have doen better with its own label, rather than hiding in the shadows of the first CW. I did not bother with this for so long because of its association with the banal CW.
Thumbs up.

Hero by Prince Matchabelli

I read all the reviews about this and could never imagine what it smells like...so I bought one. Hero is indeed very very nice, it is in the same family as CK One Scene and CK Be. If you've tried CK Be, then you've experienced the aura of Hero. It is a flat but fresh fragrance that does not change much over time but it is always fresh...like a flower than blooms every 2 to 3 seconds.
Hero is far more grown up however. It does have the sweet character of the CKs above but dialed down considerably, so you never feel like it is cloying. And it is not unisex like the CKs either. I know CK One Scene is somewhat rare, but it is closer to it than CK Be. CK One Scene is like a teenager with bubble gum flare, while Hero is like the uncle who is older but very hip and cool.
Overall, it is semi-sweet with an addictive angle. I think it is best for a hot summer night after a cool shower post some serious, sweat inducing physical activity.
Thumbs up!

Nuits de NoHo by Bond No. 9

UPDATE: This can def be worn by a man. My wife wore it out of the blue and I went nuts! After huggin her some of it got on me, and I enjoy it on me as well.

I too initially dismissed this as a copy of Angel (or Britto for those who have discovered it) but then it started to change. The pineapple really makes a difference, 'cause sometimes, Angel can be too much, but with NdN I feel you can be liberal without feeling like a giant candy bar later.
I also think this is can be unisex...on the right skin.

Connect for Men by Jivago

Just got this in the mail...smells exactly like Drakkar Noir except this takes you almost imeediately to the Drakkar dry down plus some civet-like scent. i have always enjoyed Drakkar Noir until it got waaay too popular (kinda like Aqua di Gio now). I see DN is making a small resurgence, can't get it cheap anymore. Plus, there are quite a few copies out thereright now, including Beckham Instinct and Phat Farm Atman. Connect is the closest to the real thing, and I think DN's dry down is its genius and graw...Connect gives you all that and then some instanteneously.

Woody. Deep sensuous woody. Cedary, shoe tree woody. Thast's all I get and I love it!

Latitude Longitude by Nautica

A modern interpretation of the classic Safari by Raph Lauren...at least in the opening and first few transitions. it becomes gradually sweet, then salty as some reviewers mentioned, an oceany feel that balances quite well with the sweetness. Theere is also a white skin musk that shows up as the scent approaches its dry down. At this point, I get the impression that this is an old school (80s) scent disguising as a younger brighter fragrance. Overall, its not bad, I think it is best suited for sunny days outdoors. The sillage and projection are a bit above average. Nice sweet and salty fragrance.

Rive Gauche pour Homme by Yves Saint Laurent

UPDATE: This is very similar to Escada for men, though Escada includes some greener sweets much like that of Versace's Green Jeans.

This is outstanding. Period. It is obviously not a traditional YSL, and it is also obvious that it was created by Jacques Cavallier, a genius to say the least. As most have mentioned, clean cut shaving smell. If you want to smell clean without loosing your masculinity this is it. I am glad I found it, because far too many clean scents for men are unisex, and they usually lack the manliness I so desire in a fragrance. The only other fragrance that can kinda come clos eto delivering the same effect (in a roundabout way) is Comme des Garcons 2 Man, which gives you a dirty smoky man before cleaning him up. Rive Gauche gives you clean and manly all at once. Highly Recommneded.

Arpège pour Homme by Lanvin

WHAT?!?!? Are we all smelling the same frag here? All these reviews and no mention of Givenchy Pi?!? They are twins for crying out loud!, save for the FUBU Plush in the opening thru the middle of Arpege. Other than that...vanilla/tonka bean a la Givenchy Pi.
And the mention of Burberry Touch? I am sorry, but like silk4ever, I don't so any correlation to Burberry Touch whatsoever. Mugler is on to something with the association with B*Men...just slightly though.
Anyhoo...I have Touch and Pi, and Pi is the relative for sure, not Touch. Pi is very close...maybe too close. I'd skip it if you already have Pi.
Dimitri is on point with the go-easy application as well.

Baldessarini by Baldessarini

...update...if you like this check out CK One Scene they are weirdly related...
This is an outstanding scent, however, it has one great fault:
IT DOESN'T LAST!!!
It is frustrating because the 'juice' (thanks, Eluard) is so delicious, unlike anything out there...UNTIL I discovered ARAMIS LIFE.
IF YOU LOVE THIS SCENT, GET ARAMIS LIFE. LIFE DRIES DOWN TO A STRONGER BLADESSARINI. TRUST ME, I HAVE THEM BOTH.
With that being said, getting thru the top notes of Aramis Life is like having to eat the skin on a kiwi in order to get to the kiwi itself.
Also, don't pay the BS $100 for the chrome flacon Prestige bottle...check TJ Maxx like STUFFMAN said, or go online. $30 max.

A*Men Pure Coffee by Thierry Mugler

What a let down. I like the smell of coffee, and so I expected to like this one. The coffee scent in this is a stale/burnt cooffee-in-the-office-coffee-pot that has been there for days smell. Not attractive or desirable...to me anyway. I think it takes away from the original A*Men scent as the coffee part hangs around through out the scent life.
Neutral at best (and that is stretching it). Only buy if you love that coffee smell regardless of freshness.
24 April 2008

Ice*Men by Thierry Mugler

My original review is below...it's been almost a year and I revisited this...now I LOVE this. My nose has changed for sure since then ( I have acquired at least 3 dozen bottles since then). Smells like Armani Attitude/B*Men in its initial blast, then it eases up on the gourmand nature quite nicely to a manly cologne. Yes, it still has the slight drugstore aftershave tinge (but very lightly) but the overall effect is nice. What changed? Maybe the weather. It works best in hot/very hot weather. Now recommended.

Joshaugustt and zoomazooma are on point with this. It smells too medicinal to be good. What a let down from T Mugler who is supposed to be awesome.
At best, it smells like one of the men's bath gels from Old Spice or some cheap aftershave like aquavelve.
Def not for me, not reccomended.
24 April 2008

Reflection Man by Amouage

This is nice, a Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male in an Armani suit to my nose. none of the wild and brash muskiness, no lavender domination, just a nice mellow sweetness. It does smell a little synthetic though. A heavier application gives it strength, depth and more dimension. If I find it at half price, I might buy it. Otherwise, waaaay too expensive, and the juice is NOT unique or daring enough to warrant shelling out the dough.
22 April 2008

Cirrus by Amouage

Definately NOT worth the money! Smells like a bunch of other cheap colognes, a bit like REALITIES Graphite Blue. What a total dissapointment. What were they thinking? DON'T BOTHER!!!

cK one Scene by Calvin Klein

Coconut's review is right on.
I like this alot, and it is hard not to like. I would dub this CK Be summer becuase of the obvious relation. It is worth going into one's collection, and definately a great summer fragrance. Nicely done!

Iceberg Homme by Iceberg

Calvin Klein Eternity's european cousin, complete with all the standard euro exuberances. Better than Eternity? I think so, but you will have to apply a bit heavy. It expands and flouresces in all the areas Eternity will simply show you. I like it. Is it worth the purchase if you can find it? Yes...if you've once had Eternity and no longer have it. It will be like visiting an old friend who is now more lively and entertaining.

Jivago 24k Men by Jivago

This is weired. It is fresh, it is clean, it can be addictive, it is unlike anything else yet it is instantaneously familiar. It has a slight dirty musky angle that is clean, really clean (oxymoron?) Worth the money for sure, and it is fairly inexpensive on eBay. Can't find the notes anywhere, reminds me a bit of Allure less all the cloying annoyances.
17 April 2008

Versus Uomo by Versace

A bit dissapointed with this, sounds like you need to have history with it in order to love it. It reminded me of Old Spice original, a lot actually. Much like Gucci Envy...but a lot smoother and more refined. The Gucci weas far too harsh. I really like Old SPice, but it can smell cheap at times. This is a good alternative.
17 April 2008

Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent

WARNING: THIS STUFF IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY.

Hail to the king of the 80's.

If you are a collector/appreciator/connoiseur of fragrances and you haven't sampled this or it is not in your collection...then you should SERIOUSLY re-evaluate your stance.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
I wanted to run away at first whiff, then like magic, I was hooked...and so is my wife. The drydown is MAGNIFICENT. Sillage and longevity is like non-other. All the variations of this (Sport, Fraicheur, Tattoo) are equally as awesome (except for Body Kouros).
If this is too strong for you, then try the fresh or Tattoo versions. Lighter, but still with the appreciable punch.

10 THUMBS UP!
15 April 2008

G7 Bold by Gap

Don't bother. It's almost like there is no scent. Fresh, minty, recalls Jil Sander's Sander for men in the weired slanted bottle with the black cap except G7 Bold has a sweeter, bluer tinge. Will do well as a room spray.
15 April 2008

V/S for Men by Versace

I like this one! I was expecting a royal mess considering the reviews, but this isn't half bad. The initial spray was veryvery close to Paul Smith Extreme, and it stays close to this scent with the following difference: Paul Smith Extreme has a very powdery nature that can be too soft for a man. V/S instead comes off as the more refined, almost edp version of Paul Smith Extreme that is more suit or tux instead of jeans or jersey. It also has a coolness that hands around forever. In the background, there is a slight, (really slight) lanvin L'Homme/Society for men/Chic by Herrera in there. It's well done. I would recommend it for hot weather, and a heavy application is permissible.
15 April 2008

Baldessarini Ambré by Baldessarini

After spending a lot more time with this, I have to change my review. Still a thumbs up...
This is closest to Escada Magnetism. Both have a sweetness that is kinda boozey. The fragrance does not change much over time, but the depth is nice. I get the comparo to Boss bottled, but I think this fragrance is very different and worthy of a purchase even if you already have Boss bottled. It certainly does not have the dryness of Boss bottled, and there is something very sensous about this that you don;t get form bottled. On the other hand, if you already have Escada magnetism, I wouldn't suggest purchasing this...they are just too similar.
15 April 2008

Bobby Jones by Bobby Jones

Smells almost exactly like Jaguar Performance, one of my favorite scents. BJ is a little less sharp and strong...maybe more refined? or maybe just less depth. I like it, its very fresh and kinda sweet. And soapy. Great for summer office wear, especially if you are looking for something different.
14 April 2008

Realm by Realm Fragrances

So I too tried this inspite of the gimmicky and cheap "contains pheromones" gold sticker on the package. It DOES contain pheromones, as Myohoman noted, one of the 3 top attractants. It is a different one from that contained in Estee Lauder's Intuition for example. My wife certainly does react to it, (I haven't tried with any other females) but I don't think it will make a woman want to sleep with you...but it does help if you were already getting hot'n'heavy.

Now the smell...it took a good week for me to get a good grip on this fragrance...alas it is nothing new. It is a bit sweet and can come off as not masculine (go figure). But I think it is because of the pheromones: a man's nose almost immediately will block it out!

If you do like the smell and don't give a rat's 'patoot' (thanks Car and Driver) about pheromones, then look for and buy GUESS MEN (not Guess Man in the green bottle) the old school classic in the tall cylindrical bottle. The liquid is a dark ambery color and the cap and base is black. It is very hard to come by, but I recommend getting a mini bottle since it is VERY strong.

A blend of GUESS MEN and REALM? Arm yourself with a stick...it will attrract more than a fair share of ladies!!

PS: this combo can put you in a foul mood, so if you try it and you are ready to fight someone, it's your cologne fault
13 April 2008

Axe Lab by Axe / Lynx

Smells to me like the cologne version of Axe Touch, itself very similar to Davidoff Echo and a lil bit like Givnchy ph Blue Label. Deep aquatic with a woody undertone. Can be sensous aat times. Works well in humid weather.

Kouros Tattoo Edition by Yves Saint Laurent

If you can find this, buy it! This is the king's grandson modernized yet unmistakeably Kouros. I was puzzled becuase I thought it was the same scent in a collector's bottle...but it is not.
Tatto edition is a 'tonique', a concentration that fits somewhere between EDT and apres-rasage. For me (and for a fragrance of this strength and magnitude) the tonique is THE BEST concentration. It packs enough punch to take you back 26 years in time, yet it is gentler to the nose and loves you instantly rather than run you off like the original does before it shows you love.
If you couldn't stand the original's in-your-face attitude, and the fraicheur is too weak, then THIS IS IT!
10 THUMBS UP!

PS: this tattoo edition comes with 2 temporary tattoos. There is a new summer version that is the same 'tonique' fragrance but no tattoo.
12 April 2008

Intuition for Men by Estée Lauder

I am not surprised to see all the thumbs down...from guys. Hello...it contains pheromones that you are NOT supposed to be attracted to. There are 3 top pheromone attractants based on a wide variety of men. If this one is NOT a significant part of your natural chemistry you will be disgusted by it. IF you are lucky like stevef below and this works with your chemistry you will like it and not know why.

It does have a resemblance to Allure, but just vaguely. It is closer to Hypnose by Lancome, though the later is super ctrong compared to Intuition. What I do is layer...Intuition underneath (on my undershirt or skin) generously, then top it off with Hypnose. The combo does wonders...the intuition works kinda like an octane booster for your car. Works better in warmer weather where it can really stretch its legs (or on a dancefloor or anywhere else you might certainly sweat).

Don't bother if you don't want to attract the opposite sex.
12 April 2008

Paul Smith for Men by Paul Smith

Maybe there is something wrong with my nose, but yes it does smell like Fahrenheit...a lot actually, without the 'fuel' or 'motor-oil' thingy as odysseusm pointed out below. There are quite a few notes that make it stand out, for example the dry down is quite different (nice), and I guess this is yet another love it or hate it frag. Noticeably different from the extreme version which has more of a baby powder angle to it, kinda like Bvlgari Blu Notte, but not so babyish. I like this, and I am glad I got it.

My conclusion is this: if you like Fahrenheit but can't do the fuel note, then this is for you, and it is not as strong either.
10 April 2008

Davidoff Adventure by Davidoff

This is very light (read weak) and it is a tiny bit similar to Dunhill Pursuit. I need to spend more time with it, but it isn't something I would rush out to buy. Manly, light and musky.
08 April 2008

Armani Attitude by Giorgio Armani

Boy was I wrong and waaay off base on this one(see my original review below)! I got it for cheap on eBay and wow, I really enjoy it now. It lasts a VERY long time on my skin, and as all have mentioned, it is a melange of Code, Visit, B*Men, Hypnose, Zino, Minotaur, Burb London etc. If you like gourmands or at least one of the mentioned, you should love this.

Thumbs up now!

Not a big fan of this one...it started out all over the place...sharp and indistinguishable. Then it abruptly fades into what I would describe as a faded women's scent, like hypnose by lancome or something. It then stays that way for a sometiem until a pleasant tea like scent shows up to the party. At this point it smells like sometihng you would expect from Bulgari, basically a very well done tea scent for casual occasions. <br>I am going to pass on it, just not quite spectacular enough for me. in the words of Simon Cowell (American Idol) it is a safe rendition.
08 April 2008

Hypnôse Homme by Lancôme

EDIT: this is waaaaay better than JPG...I bought a bottle for cheap and I can't get enough. Closer to Lolita Lempicka and just much better. Older and more assured, less 'wannabe'. This is the Le Male for the older, more mature, 'I have good/better taste' crowd.

yet another JPG le male wannabe. It's been 12 years and now some scent houses want to 'redo' le male...i don't get it. Either way much cleaner and sharper than le male...I can't decide if I like this or Zihr Corduroy better.<br>I'll say, if you can't stand JPG le male's unnecessary dirty musk, then try one of the other 2 i mentioned. and if you love le male but don't want to spend the money, then go with 100% Love by s-perfume.
08 April 2008

Purple Label by Ralph Lauren

Ginger and spices done very well.

Am I the only one who has made the connection between Purple Label and Romance Silver? It is the same scent with R Silver being considerably more harsh in the opening (heavy citrus). I find it very interesting that both were released in 2003...and that PL was a limited release. It's like the kind of man PL is supposed to appeal to will never think of buying the more mainstream 'department store' R Silver. Such a man is more sophisticated, cares for RL's 'Purple Label' clothing line...which explains its subtlety: flamboyance is certainly not sophisticated.
So, my conclusion is RL cheated by releasing the same scent in the same year with not enough differences. But hey, Cadillacs are just spruced up Chevys, much like Lincolns are just spiced up Fords...so why not?

05 April 2008

Escada Moon Sparkle for Men by Escada

I had high hopes for this...unfortunately it is pointless. The name is appropriate...I don't know what the moon smells like, but this does a good job of feeding the immagination. It is not sweet, not green, not spicy, not dark, not sensuous, not incensy, not anything, just very grey. I couldn't even get past the first whiff! It is already a flop in europe...
05 April 2008

Polo Double Black by Ralph Lauren

If you can digest FOETIDUS' review then you have a good idea what Polo DB is all about. I think the blend of notes are exotic but the overall fragrance is a bit weak. I applied very generously to get close to the fragrance and what I take away is this:
the opening is a weak Burberry Touch with the Mango note in the background...very nice
the middle actually develops the "black" note the name alludes to...it smells a bit like tar
the dry down isn't much different from the mid and top notes, but at some point I got a general likeness to Lolita Lempicka for men, but much lighter.
Overspraying might be the ticket for this as I got a complement from a guy and a girl at work today.
04 April 2008

Allure Homme Edition Blanche by Chanel

Like others I believe this is the best ALLURE to date. The opening is quite lemony, then it moves on to a Bulgari ph rendition...slightly dark earthy woods. This hangs for a while before it nicely transitions to Mugler Cologne in the dry down. It is just awesome. Well worth the price.
04 April 2008

Sentiment for Men by Escada

Why bother?<br>CK Be plus some spice...and it only lasts for two seconds.

The above was my original review...however after spending a lot more time with this I have come to appreciate it. It is liek CK Be but lighter, with one of the best grapefruit heavy citrus accords i have ever sampled. It lasts long to. THumbs up for sure on this now.
04 April 2008

Chrome by Azzaro

this is nothing but CK One (not truth, as others have mentioned). It is the exact same scent with this difference: Chrome starts out fresher and spicer, it bites your nose a little, then immediately dries down to CK One.
04 April 2008

Paco by Paco Rabanne

I have decided to update my review of this after wearing this fragrance for over a month. It is in fact NOT a clone of CK One, but it def has a CK One in there. There is a bit of a 'fried food' smell, a la Paco Rabanne XS, very similar to Carolina Herrera scents. Below is a chunk of my previous review.
Russlan and MonkeyManMatt are exactly on the money. Interesting to see that both paco and Chrome came out the same year, 2 years after Ck one. Also notice that both Chrome and paco are NOT unisex. <br>So in my humble opinion, paco is better than Ck one and I can't decide if it is better than Chrome. I would buy a bottle since it is quite inexpensive right now (if you can find it) but I already have Chrome. Thumbs up because it is a good scent overall...just like Ck one and Chrome are good. Quite possibly the most excellent casual fragrance(s) ever made. <br>

Body Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent

This is undeserving of the Kouros name. I discovered the regular Kouros as well as the Sport version before discovering the Body version. Having being mesmerized by the original and sport, I had high hopes for Body, hoping to have a YSL 'Kouros' trio in my collection.
What turns me off is the fact that it is unrelated to the Kouros line, good news for some, bad news for me. Second is the baby wipes in the background as found in the very one dimensional Bulgari Blu Notte. If you happen to like the Blu Notte frag, you should be head over heals for Body Kouros.
Overall, it is somewhat sweet, somewhat smoky but to my nose with a very unrelenting baby wipes (Blu Notte) in the background. I am sure if I wore it for a week I might see some positive attributes. But for right now, I am not enthralled. Neutral. and that is giving it my most benign rating.
15 January 2008

212 Men by Carolina Herrera

I struggle with this fragrance, because to my nose, I get this distinct fried something smell. It's like wearing a nice powdery cologne to work...at Burger King or KFC for 8 hours and then capturing the resulting smell and bottling it. And most of C Herrera's line is like that. It seems to have a great following though, and it has been copied time and time again. Lanvin L'homme comes to mind, so does Society (tall cylindrical bottle). Others include Paco Rabanne XS and DKNY Men in the funky long and skinny rectangular bottle.
10 January 2008

Vetiver by Guerlain

What a disappointment. I figured Guerlain is a big time house, therefore the juice should big time. Not to my nose...until I saw it was over 40 years old!!! SO, thumbs up it is.
Smells shy green...no boldness whatsoever, possibly the nicet green. It is also quite dry to the nose like Champagne is to the mouth. Is it a classic? yes, but not a must have.
22 December 2007

Original Vetiver by Creed

Fresh, fresh, fresh. Clean, just laundered light green with a tinge of foody vanilla(veryvery light tinge).
I am sure I am not the only one that notices OV is a copy of Mugler Cologne. However, the 'hand-of-Creed' is very evident, and I think I would have bought the Creed if I sampled it before the Mugler. There is something about the Mugler that bomes annoying if oversprayed, especially in cold weather. The Creed on the other hand is dynamic enough so you can overspray and not regret it.
But for the money, Mugler is the bvious touch. However, if a bit more sophistication and a better drydown is your desire, spend the money on Original Vetiver.
22 December 2007

Allure Homme by Chanel

This is nice. Sensual cinnamon-vanillaic to my nose...until it turns to that nasty synthetic pheromonic twang on my skin (think Curve). If you are lucky enough and this stays nice on your skin, it is worth the prchase. I find it to be nicest in the winter time. If however you are like me and you experience the aforementioned twang, then try Newport from Caswell Massey. Smells 95% same plus it stays fresh all day.
21 December 2007

Newport (new) by Caswell-Massey

Holy cow! You've got to be kidding me with all the negative reviews! This smells good, as long as you don't compare it to the old version. I like this especially because it smells like a more wearable version of Allure Homme. Allure takes on a funky synthetic pheromonic twang after about 2 hours on my skin and on others as well. Newport stays true to the cinnamon-vanilla plus ocean blue freshness you get in the opening, even a bit better than Allure's opening. I will always wear this stuff, it is good recommend it.
21 December 2007

Kouros Cologne Sport by Yves Saint Laurent

I like this a lot, it is basically a fresher version with a noticeable citrus in the opening that lasts for about 2 hours, especially in cold weather. I wonder if some of the reviewers here tried this on their skin. On paper, yes, all you will get is a deodorized public restroom kinda thing; but on your skin, HOLY SMOKES, THE WOMEN WOULD NOT LEAVE ME ALONE! Maybe its skin chemistry, I don't know. Awesome stuff!
19 December 2007

Reserve by Perry Ellis

The best of the 360 line (this bottle shape is considered the 360 line).
It opens somewhere between Swiss Army Altitude and Jaguar Performance. If you don't know what these smell like, think bright slight green/blue fresh but not harsh with a hint of mint. It stays fresh for about 3 hrs (in cold weather) and then a warmth appears...it envelopes you in a nice masculine aura before the clean synthetic musky dry down appears.

Imagine prom night...there is all the fan fare of getting ready and getting there...that's the opening: a mixture of excitement and a little stress. Then th
