Bulgari pour Homme by Bulgari

One favorite of mine-classy, subtle but bold, sensuous, and tied together with the citrus, peper, tea, musk harmonies developed by Bulgari. although the opening is bold, the dry-down is far more complex and sumptuous. The scent has longevity, but closer to the skin than any cologne or fragrance I regularly wear. While tea and pepper holds most fragrances from Bulgari, it's base is quite manly versus androgeny. The scent verges on genius. I have garnered as many compliments on this frag as any other. Two hands up. In regular rotation with Dolce Gabanna, Eau Savage, Knize Ten, Bois du Portugal, and Terre de Hermes. A classic.

Eau Sauvage by Christian Dior

Quite a classic, which truly may remain timeless. Not a complicated fragrance, but a perfect blend highlighting citrus at it's finest. My initial impression was that it could last longer, but it does, in a subtle drydown lasting for ten to twelve hours on my skin. Bravo.

A*Men / Angel Men by Thierry Mugler

Over rated!!!! This cologne is like a cake with icing to be plastered on your body! Clearly too sweet. Clearly too simple. Get the taste of sweet desserts, mix generously, and you have this. Totally without sophistication. Sorry. any frangrance with only a two to one postive to negative ratio is dangerous. This fragrance is a waste of money and time. That is, unless you are starting Kindergarten......you will be quite popular ith both girls and boys!!!!

Envy for Men by Gucci

I find this a paradox: fine after drydown....which is quite long in coming, but too "sweet" before so. I find "sweet" oriental frags too "Jade East" like, although this scent i quite different, apart from the too sweet, oriental quality. This negates the masculine qualities of this scent. I am quite ambivilant about this frgrance, despite the plaudits of many Basenotes colleagues. I cannot wear this scent comfortably.

Bulgari pour Homme Extreme by Bulgari

This enigmatic fragrance is, as other reviewers have expressed, not concentrated BPH. While similar, it is very different as well. The opening is grapefruit, tea and pepper. It is quite an opening, but the initial pungency is lost quickly, and for the next few hours is quite an aroma, which starts to move closer to the skin, becoming an "inimate" fragrance. I like it very much, and rotate this regularly. It is both suitable for evening, as well as office.

English Leather by Dana

The first cologne I ever purchased. I must have a leather fetish and consider this a more basic scent than the sophisticated Knize Ten, the "sumptuous" Creed. It remains a standout, by any measure. Who cares if it is inexpensive and a drug store purchase. I agree it a casual, all around scent that almost everyone likes.

Paco Rabanne pour Homme by Paco Rabanne

Simply a classic and truly not "like" any other common fragrance. Purchased long ago, and I keep buying it. It is long lasting, quite sensuous. Do go lightly though!

Halston Z-14 by Halston

No, this cologne is not "nostalgia" personified, as suggested by many reviews. I cannot distinguish why fragrances, good or bad, morph with time. They are either good, bad, or in-between, depending on preference. I like Z-14, always have. Granted, a fragrance falls out of favor when worn by everyone, but this no longer applies to Z-14. I love it. Because I have used it frequently over years, it is not the regular in rotation that it was, but when worn, it still brings admiring nods. It has tremendous staying power.

Dolce & Gabbana pour Homme by Dolce & Gabbana

This is a paradoxic fragrance. Slightly overpowering at first. Great longevity. The dry-down is wonderful, particularly when used in moderation, and morphs into what I perceive as sweet tobacco, pepper and musk. Not my favorite, and more a cold weather animal. But, nonetheless, quite distinguished and sensual.

Terre d'Hermès by Hermès

This fragrance has two directions: The initial "hit" which is overbearing, earthy, mineral, and harsh orange. This melds into wonderful drydown smelling of rich earth (humous), leather, and tangerine. The fragrance lasts forever in it's transition to drydown.. Very sophistacted, as noted by others, and quite sensual...almost too sensual for office wear. (I still use it there!) I think this is a unique fragrance which still is not in wide-spread use, except by afficianodos. A very fine scent. I like this one.

Tommy Bahama for Men by Tommy Bahama

Tommy Bahama would not have been purchased by me, or even tried. "Tommy BAHHHAMMA!" However, received as a gift, I felt obligated to wear it once. Guess what? One of my favorites- both sophisticated and elegant. The fragrance is no lightweight. It opens a little too warm, but settles down into a tobacco/leather/incense "soul," that lasts. I have received many complements in a short period of time. It is not a replacement for my Knize, Eau Savage, or the several Creed's, but I really like this frag and it will regularly rotate.

Knize Ten by Knize

The last "fragg" comment was hideous. Some have no nose.

Found in the Bahamas in a sampler. Lovely, refined, "earthy-dry leather." I have had more comments on this fragrance than any worn. Women love this scent, which "morphs" as time passes. Long lasting, but subtle and different as the day wears on. Podery-leather best describes it, but it is much more complex. It lasts.

Abercrombie & Fitch Woods by Abercrombie & Fitch

So sad. Bought my son this fragrance at A&F. I liked it immediately, and after "borrowing his," I bought the scent for my use. It is a wonderfully earthy, woodsy frgrance, that is light, but complex. Always brings comments from women, if lightly used. It does have staying power.

Sandalwood (original) by Crabtree & Evelyn

A sandalwood classic. Mysore sandalwood mixed with cedar and citrus. A classic for a sure cure for "sandalwood" fetish!

Zizanie by Fragonard

This fragrance is a classic, and yet, for the powedry tones, it is also very masculine. It does last and may come across as "strong." Wear it lightly and it smells wonderful, hours and hours later. It is not a "little" boys fragrance and much more suited the the successful gentleman. Thumbs up by me!

Tabac Original by Mäurer & Wirtz

This is a
classic! Subtle after dry-down, but longer lasting that most appreciate, just close to the skin. It's "aura" adds to it's sexiness, but this is an unobtrusive cologne, which never has left a bad impression when worn. Good for interviews and daily executive wear. Buy it.

Kanøn by Scannon

First purchased in Montreal in 1974. Loved the scent then. Did not buy another until last year, and wonder why. Woodsy, bright, and understated. Love it.
