Shalimar by Guerlain

I am constantly mesmerized, stunned into a dreamy silence and alternatively tickled by this marvel.
1925!
What a beautiful and completely unreasonable, emotional blend of audacity, respect and disrespect....
I think if anyone has ever been in love they would love this.
Vanilla thrown into a plantation of iris and smoked with opoponax... and all with so much consummate balance and poise...
Poised and yet ready to tip over into a symphony...
...
I just sprayed myself after a shower and ... yeah, I suddenly think. It's not really that womanly... or feminine.
It's passion, sweetened, bottled up for lovers of both (or all) sexes.

A man could wear this for his woman (or his man) and still feel intense and true.

Noir Epices by Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle

OK, after a couple of months of wearing all 3 of the Editions I ordered. I have to admit that this one is the closest to my heart .. in fact, possibly closer than Habit Rouge and even Une Rose. It's again, like Une Rose, deceptive in its intensity and strength.. because like Une Rose it's a very disciplined animal. Almost like passion based on a mathematical or architectural formula but with the formula well-thrown away once the creation or the journey starts!!
I've worn it in heat, in cold, in rain and in sun..
and it's never behaved... it's always been alive, conversing with me, making me notice it on myself and ultimately making me believe a bit at a time in BEAUTY, Passion, the passing of age and that inexplicable feeling of sadness that all contact with art engenders.
it's the Edition I wear the most often (followed by Une Rose)...
It's a good scent for an artist, a musician, definitely NOT for a fop, a flirt, or a politician.
Nothing very safe here (and not in that same wild unsafe sexual way that Musc Ravageur possesses)
It's really an invitation to rediscover some poetry in life.
Pretty intense stuff with a cool cool attitude

Une Rose by Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle

I bought 3 Editions for my mother.. Musc Ravageur, Carnal Flower, Une Rose.. and loved them SO much I just ordered 3 in a row! Une Rose, Carnal Flower and Noir Epices in the mail... Of all these, Une Rose is possibly the most startling.. it's a cool, animale, disciplined rose that never appears to topple over or get flustered.. it just CONTINUES irresistably like a power of nature, blooming and glowing. It's a dark RED rose that somehow can be worn by both men and women. There's nothing like it. It's the first rose scent that has completely convinced me that I can wear rose... it is a masterpiece.

Carnal Flower by Editions de Parfums Frederic Malle

It's so stunning... almost searingly beautiful, it burns away all pretensions and preconceptions of what is a feminine or masculine scent. You've got to be one sexy person to pull this off.. but, believe me, it adds to one's sexiness 130%!

Eau Noire Cologne by Christian Dior

I walked to the Dior counter quite blind to the press and publicity around the 3 colognes Hedy Slimane had created for the exclusive Dior line and tested Eau Noire 3 weeks ago.. It completely floored me. Almost as if I had finally found myself again in the noise of modern fragrance shallowness... Don't get me wrong, I love Rive Gauche PH, Cartier's Baiser du Dragon, even Dior Homme.. but Eau Noire completely took me by surprise. I waited a few days .. went for another spritz on my wrists.. Then last week went down and got one 125 ml bottle, and one 250... I don't need to describe the beauty of the construction, the masterful restraint and effortless artistry in the blending, everyone else here has. But isn't it great that every once in a while a great artist puts some soul and feeling and beauty into something you can use everyday? Day in and day out :)

Arabie by Serge Lutens Les Salons du Palais Royal Shiseido

Stunning. Bold. In your face and yet so multi-faceted.
Definitely not for the faint of heart or for those who wish to be discreet and well-behaved.
It is, still, impeccably crafted. Almost architectural in its pyramid....
No perfume has cast a spell quite like this on me lately!
