Deauville pour Homme by Michel Germain

I like this very much! The citrus and pepper opening is simply wonderful in that it mixes so smoothly down into a very distinct freshly cut clementine and thyme mixture that is in every way brilliant - it truly is very striking. The next stage starts to settle around a very smooth tobacco and amber that's last a very long time. I also love that every once in awhile the smell of violets (due to the orris) comes out and mingles about. The same goes for the oak moss- it is very smooth and subtle, but certainly there. If you can find it, give it a try - I am glad I did.

Well done - a very smooth operator!

I wish I would have bought more of this. Simple and fabulous.

Terracotta Voile d'Ete by Guerlain

Fantastic. I can not believe more don't know about this one, or maybe they do and just don't talk about it?

Whatever the case, this is superb. I love it.

Tom Ford = genius.

This is gorgeous, absolutely lovely - enough said. 5 stars.

FCUK Him by French Connection

I don't know what it is exactly, but shortly after putting this on there is this burnt smell, I can not describe it, but it is ghastly and not interesting at all. In fact, this fragrance makes my stomach turn almost all the way through. I can not give this a bigger thumbs down. Hideous.

Escada Moon Sparkle for Men by Escada

This is what Moon Sparkle reminds me of - a FIZZY Fruit Cocktail Spritzer that accidentally had black pepper spilled in it. I must say, it is interesting and the pepper note throughout the middle is awesome and, dare say unique, but the synthetic marine/aquatic mess mingled with it completely kill it.

I am giving it a neutral - only because of the pepper note. This could have been WAY better.

White Patchouli by Tom Ford

Way heavier on roses than I expecting, but, nonetheless, a lovely scent.

A new favourite of mine!

RSVP by Kenneth Cole

I actually really like this. While it is nothing super spectacular, it certainly is not as bad as some others seems to indicate. To me it reminds me of a cross between Burberry London and Gucci Envy. I love the drydown which is very creamy with lovely hints of oppoponax. Not bad at all.

Oh My Dog! by Dog Generation

This may indicate that this for girls, but that didn't stop me for buying it for my VERY spoiled rotten Yorkie named Buddy. He loves it . . . and so do I. Nice to put on between groomings and for going on walks. Besides, like his Dad, he loves to smell nice - heaven forbid he get dirty - even when chasing any chipmunk in sight!

Thumbs up!

Halston Z-14 by Halston

An awesome fragrance from the seventies. I rank this right up there with the much newer Égoïste by Chanel in regards to the spices in the drydown (namely, coriander), but the distinction is there and there only - these are two completely different beasts, both of extreme good quality.

The opening of this is pure citrus with a heavy dose of lemon and bergamot that is just fantastic and, may I add, to my nose, not one bit dated. The middle notes are very well blended - developing into a very sophisticated woody floral that is sooo very smooth and sweet, yet still sharp and lemony. The end result is pure spice with a bit of musk and the ever present citrus overtone mixed with benzoin and tonka giving it a slight vanilla appeal . . . absolutely heavenly.

Polo Double Black by Ralph Lauren

Nice, Nothing special, bet well done and very interesting. I'm glad to have it in my collection. However, on me it does not last very long, but, while it does, it's fantastic.

Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue by Dolce & Gabbana

In my opinion, so far, this is the best of the Dolce and Gabbana lot for both men and woman - and that is saying alot, but this is simply fantastic! I wish the men's was this good! No matter, I'll wear them both, but prefer this one. Guys, don't be afraid to use this!

IMHO, this is the best RL creation out there at the moment. It's longevity is astounding.

Gorgeous from start to finish.

Joop! Homme by Joop!

Well, if, and only if, you spray yourself with this one time, two at the absolute most, it is nice. Anymore than that and its pure torture to the point of death by noxious gas. HOWEVER, in small (miniscule is more like it) amounts this stuff actually reminds me of very sweet Nag Champa Incense, which I like alot. If worn as such, I find it very appealing.

A thumbs up when used in trace amounts. A thumbs down when overused. Neutral because of the danger involved!

Coach The Fragrance by Coach

I love this! Without a doubt, this is one of the best scents out there. I haven't heard many guys talk about this one, but I find it very unisex, and I most certainly get all kinds of compliments whenever I wear it, and I can see why!! This is one class act - everything about it is sooo well rounded! Well done!

Cold by Benetton

Awesome all the way around. I get an amazing wear out of this stuff . . . so, either, I got a very, very good bottle, or this stuff agrees with me very well or at least better than most :-). Seriously, it lasts forever on me and is great from start to finish! The mix of citrus, greens, and musk is very refreshing and a tad different than many other - the red pepper not is very, very nice - I LOVE IT.

Good job on this one - a very unique bottle too! Thumbs up on yet another Benetton frag from this guy!!

BTW...HOT is awesome too . . . however, this is better.

Cerruti Image Fresh Energy by Cerruti

I picked this up in Spain awhile back and it is a lovely summer scent. At first, I was not impressed, but as it wears, it gets better. It is very soapy and clean, goes on very light and is perfect for a day stroll, or afternoon cocktail party.

Glad to see it has been added!

Nice!

Capucci pour Homme by Roberto Capucci

A true classic. As the others have pointed out, it's very similar to it's contemporary Dior's Eau Sauvage, but a little more clear, less obtuse and perfectly capable of holding it's own w/o comparison 40 years later! Love it!

Great for an evening out.

Nothing special, that's all that can be said.

Gucci by Gucci pour Homme by Gucci

A great new scent in a fantastic bottle to add to the collection!

My thoughts:

The first few minutes of the top notes are all about the cypress - you definitely get a great combination of the menthol like effect (think of a Vick's snuffer) and violet. The menthol from the cypress quickly tones down a notch fully revealing the lovely floral and the ever intriguing Elemi note (which gives it an almost smokey like feel accented by a pickled citrus brine effect- simply awesome, IMO) while still mingling with a very heavy violet - a very, VERY nice effect. This accord, still evident throughout, then gives way (ever so slightly) to the mid which is more heavily dominated by tobacco. This stage lasts for a very long time with the tobacco gaining prominence ever so slowly - a lot longer than I was expecting - and is just perfect. When it does start to fade, the tobacco moves into the base (the violet is still evident finally fades another notch, however, still evident throughout), a very wearable fine amber with a very slight hint of patchouli that lasts for hours. From start to finish it's a winner.

To put it simply - from start to finish it's a winner.

And last, but certainly not least, my final thought on the ad campaign featuring James Franco. IMHO, Gucci could not have picked someone better. James himself makes this gorgeous creation all the more spectacular with his gleaming personality and talent. Just knowing he is the face of it, makes it all the better! Thanks, James. ;-)

A HUGE THUMBS UP! 5 STARS!

Curve for Men by Liz Claiborne

I was just given this by a friend you thought I would like it. In all honesty, it's not that bad. It's a very pleasant mix of the juniper and fir that makes me like this. The thing I HATE about it is - the alcohol is sooo pronounced when you first spray it - a huge peave of mine. The drydown however, is good and long lasting. Not bad, but not great.

I most definitely can see it's appeal to the mass market. However, Mambo has it all over this one.
13 September 2008

Curve Crush for Men by Liz Claiborne

I was just given this by a friend who thought I would like it. They were VERY wrong! Whereas the pyramid for this is interesting, it doesn't mean it's good. Hideous cheap crap.

HUGE THUMBS DOWN.

Bora Bora for Men by Liz Claiborne

I just got this as a gift from a friend who thought I would like it. Well, where as it smells like a rainforest and I the hibiscus in it is rather pleasant, the sinus headache that ensues is not pleasant all.

Avoid like the plague if you have allergies.

Ice*Men by Thierry Mugler

Just as the name implies - a lighter, fresher, more chilled version of the Mugler A&B*Men formula . . . and a GREAT one at that.

Excellent for those occasions that don't need the industrial strength force of the originals.

Ed Hardy Man by Christian Audigier

I was really on the fence about this one for awhile. I tested it on a sample card, didn't think much of it. Then I saw it again got a sample card, tried it on my skin and really liked it, but not enough to buy. Then when going through my jacket that I had worn that 2nd test day, I noticed this lovely smell coming from the pocket - it was the Ed Hardy sample card still going strong a week later! It smelled divine, sweet and thick in a very appealing way. I ran right out and bought a bottle immediately and have not regretted it since. NICE!
12 September 2008

Bulgari Black by Bulgari

Very unique and interesting. I love the bottle - it does fit the concept very well looking like a tire and a rotor when placed on it's side. One thing is for sure, this scent has the "car mechanic" thing down to a very sexy science. It makes me think of that note in Fahrenheit (Dior) that is so obtuse (smelling of an oily mechanic). This one is different in that the "mechanic" aura is more akin to the smell a mechanic gets when being in the environment (the garage), but before getting really down and dirty and covering it up with something . . . or when it was a light day in the garage just changing a tire or two.

The end result - the mechanic went out in his work jacket had some vanilla tea on an outdoor patio.

Funny thing, it soooooo works . . . it certainly conjures up so very sexy imagery in my mind . . .

One thing I am perplexed about - I can not see this being unisex very well, it seems much more masculine to me, but, then again, feminine in an odd way too - like the tom girl, or the girl wearing the jacket of her oily beau hunk she is obsessed about . . . ahhhh, I see. It's like a movie in a bottle in one way it's like Rebel w/o a Cause (it makes me think of the scene when James Dean gives his jacket to Sal Mineo in particular) or, in another completely different version - a little Billy Joel "Uptown Girl" video maybe? In any event, those scenes definitely come to mind for me whenever I smell this fantastic creation.

Brilliant and highly recommended! 5 stars from this guy!

Bulgari pour Homme Extreme by Bulgari

A winner. The more I wear this the more I love it. It goes on with a wonderful crisp citrus and a background of the famous tea that so many talk about (and I adore so much). The drydown is much, much more intense in my opinion than the original and more reminiscent of a powerhouse scent of the 80's - albeit with much more restraint and not so obnoxious - very dark, green, and grassy with being cloying in any way shape or form.

IMHO, this is a perfect day/office scent - it goes on crisp and wonderful and as the day goes on, it slowly becomes much more serious - dark and handsome - debonair, if you will.. I LOVE IT.

Bois d'Argent Cologne by Christian Dior

This is some amazing stuff! I absolutely LOVE the incense (a mix of myrrh and floral/iris??) note in it, it is just as lovely as can be and really adds to the complexity and sweetness of the other notes in the scent from start to finish! Sweet and woody at its best!

Very strong and long lasting for a cologne - simply, excellent.

ADG clone, but nicer IMHO. A good on the cheap fragrance - the longevity is alright, a bit more spicy (with pepper) than ADG - that's about all that can be said. . .

Bijan Black for Men by Bijan

This one has really grown on me.

It's a little more interesting than some of the other "black" offerings from other houses, but, the best thing about it is that it seems to have a better longevity than most and the drydown is soooo very pleasant and enjoyable - very classy and professional - anything but pretentious. That being said, it's not my favourite Bijan . . . that will be NUDE - it's brilliant . . . but it is still light years better than the original Bijan! A worthy woody, floral effort that I will wear more often than not.

Actually, I think that if more people tried this, they would really like it. Give it a try!

A big thumbs up for the house of Bijan!

Axe Lab by Axe / Lynx

I was amazed at how many compliments I get when I wear this at the gym. People seem to really like it! Nonetheless, even with all the comps in the world, it is nothing special. Still, it is very nice to wear when you don't feel like wasting the good stuff. For that and the comps it gets a thumbs up.

Worth having on the cheap. :-)

Ambre de Cabochard by Grès

I really like this! It reminds me alot of V pour Homme by Valentino, with a little extra oomph! The drydown is VERY similar, the mids are comparable (VPH is a bit more spicy with a cumin note), but the top notes of this one are much more extreme - dare I say better. The cotton candy effect is most certainly present throughout in both. In my opinion, it is a very unisex fragrance. Notes are as follows:

TOP NOTE:
Seduction
Spicy cinnamon, ginger and cardamom
huckleberry, blackberry and mandarin

HEART NOTE:
Elegance
Tuberose, cyclamen and
lily of the valley

BASE NOTES:
Sensuality
Amber, patchouli, tonka bean,
vanilla and musk

RECOMMENDED FOR BOTH SEXES! NICE!

Beyond Paradise for Men by Estée Lauder

Brilliant. That is all I can say, absolutely brilliant. After all the stages of pure bliss this fragrance goes through, it all comes down the fantastic ending. An ending that reminds me of a deserted beach I once found myself on just me some wildlife, sea breezes, sea life, and slight aroma of vegetation whisping in the air - the first fragrance I have ever have ever came across the has the scent of that beach - Glover's Atoll, Belize, I will never forget that scent - EVER - it sticks in my mind so clearly to this very day and, without a doubt, this fragrance is it. Fantastic.

Fever pour Homme by Céline

I love it. I find it similar in vain to Mugler Cologne and Truth for Men by Revelations (Not CK). However, the frankincense incense note is absolutely what makes this one stand out a little bit more from the others. Fantastic!

Escape for Men by Calvin Klein

Yet another one that has come back on me with a vengeance as if trying to tell how mad it was that I have ignored it (hadn't had an interest in it in over 10+ years). I don't know why, but this time around it has really impressed me. Like some others have mentioned, about mid through there is this note that comes out that is very banana like and I adore it! For some reason, I never noticed it before - probably because I hadn't really examined it or maybe it comes out with age (this bottle is VERY OLD). In an event, I have come to really like this and have a new found fondness that won't soon go away. I welcome it back with a big thumbs up

Bowling Green by Geoffrey Beene

I adore this fragrance. The mid notes of cardamom and cinnamon are absolutely awesome and something I will never tire of and the drydown, well, there is no other way to describe it other that it is simply amazing, period.

One thing is for sure, from start to finish, this is a winner. Hands down, my favourite of the Geoffrey Beene collection.

A huge thumbs up!

Bijan Wicked for Men by Bijan

Add my voice to the chorus for this . . .

It does smell very similar to Chrome and CK One, but slightly better. I think the opening is a bit more "grassy green" than Chrome and a tad more complex the CK One. It is definitely one of those scents that varies alot depending on body temperature. The warmer it is, the better it smells - as it accentuates the mids and the Kashmir.

Notes are:

Top: Ozone, Citrus, Orange Blossom, Fresh Greens, and Pineapple

Middle : Jasmine, Nutmeg, Carnation, and Lily of the Valley.

Base : Kashmir, Sandalwood, Musk, and Blue Amber.

For what it is, this is not bad at all, but too much like any other ozone scent out there. If you would ask me if I would buy it again...I would have to say no - I would go for Nude instead.

Fahrenheit 32 by Christian Dior

A complete favourite of mine. Everytime I wear it I get compliments all around. I can not recommend this enough!
21 July 2008

Fahrenheit Summer by Christian Dior

If you are going to wear Fahrenheit in the summer, then this has to be the one you wear on the hottest days. It's everything there is to like about the original - it just takes away the mechanical scent (so I call it) and replaces it with crisp citrus and florals, yet still lets everything come through in the end. Brilliant.
21 July 2008

Fahrenheit by Christian Dior

The most interesting of the Dior mass marketed scents IMO. I love it and hate it at the same time. I MUST be in a very particular mood for this, because that smell of the dirty mechanic can be either very hot, or downright annoying at the same time. I avoid this like the plaque in summer - that's what the summer version was made for anyway!

It's awesome in fall and winter.

VIVA DIOR!
21 July 2008

L'Instant d'un Eté pour Homme by Guerlain

I find this one clever. The addition of the citrus is actually a nice added step to the development that I enjoy immensely. The citrus notes are VERY sharp and stick around alot longer than I was expecting - ALOT longer . . .

The overall mids are also a bit more pronounced, in fact, alot more than I was expecting (esp. the patchouli) . . .

The drydown is where the lighter side comes out. The sandalwood is a bit more subdued (smoother) and as mentioned before, the cocoa and anise notes are less heavy, but, nonetheless, still very similar to the original.

So its lighter, yet sharper and just as smooth the original. . . NICE.

Of the two, it kind of a toss up as which on is better, but I would have to say, I lean towards this one over the original. A definite favourite in my collection AND a limited edition. Brilliant - glad I have it!
21 July 2008

Quorum by Antonio Puig

I can not really say anything about this other than the fact that is a BEAST. Whoa, this is some loud and obnoxious stuff. A somewhat typical patchouli, leather, tobacco and a powdery amber brooding all over the place in megalith proportions type scent - i.e. a pure 80's heaven scent! That being said, I must admit I like it alot, but only for certain occasions. I only wear it with dark turtleneck sweaters in the dead of winter, period. Even then it is a very difficult one to pull off, IMO. Most of the time if this very specific situation arises, I would rather wear the pre-80's Azzaro - it is not so bold and less powdery, but makes a similar statement.

Most certainly a one spray only concoction.
20 July 2008

Old Spice White Water by Procter & Gamble

This is an absolutely brilliant scent - by far my favourite Old Spice derivative. The medicinal quality of this is absolutely addictive and the biggest part of the reason I like it so much - sexy is all I can think of to describe it! The rest of the fragrance is fresh as can be without being typical of the genre and it lasts forever - a truly unique synthetic masterpiece in a class all by itself - a seriously fantastic and underappreciated one of a kind at that!

If you can find it, give it a try, it will definitely make you stand out, as this is very difficult to find anymore.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. An enthusiastic 5 stars!
20 July 2008

Tomorrow for Him by Avon

I love it. Minty Cocoa and some patchouli thrown it = fantastic.

One problem - the drydown is very quick and before you know it the amber base is all that's left. However, this is easily solved! I find that if you use the deodorant with it as well, it really helps in the projection and makes the top notes stay around longer. Easy enough.

Simple and nice!

Obsession for Men by Calvin Klein

Yet another classic I went out and bought after finding the empty bottle of my father's. What fond memories came flooding back into my psyche when this came back into my existence! The fragrance is something I told myself I would NEVER buy (it was way to popular), alas I finally I ate my words after smelling this again. I think what did it for me is the myrrh, it's such a great mix combined with the sage and light clove - I love it more now and, of course, never appreciated it then! The kicker is the drydown - spicy sweet and oh so nice. IMO, I think this is what makes this one stand out from the bunch of the scents out there that have that sorta "barber shop" type quality to them. One thing is for sure, this is one well done fragrance and perfectly welcome back into my collection 20 + years on.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder...

Passage d'Enfer by L'Artisan Parfumeur

This is fabulous! I absolutely love it everything about it. Hypnotic is a very good way to describe this! Everytime I wear it I am enthralled with it's characteristics and awed by the simple reverence and the overall beauty of it. Splendid.

Without a doubt, my favourite use of frankincense and myrrh yet. Well done!

Green Jeans by Versace

My heart was broken when I found out this was discontinued. I absolutely love this little pine-herbal gem of a fragrance. This is the fragrance that serves as my transition scent from Blue Jeans in the summer. IMO, this is an awesome fall scent and serves it purpose beautifully as the transition scent into Black Jeans (another great discontinued gem) in the winter. Black Jeans then serves its purpose into as a transition to Baby Blue Jeans in spring.

See, there is a method to my madness . . .

The accords in this are amoung the best out there (for a pine laden scent). It is defiantly different and one that will be in my collection forever (I bought enough of it to last my entire life). I can not say that about alot of scents, but this one, to me, is that good.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Chocolovers by Aquolina

I have to admit I am a sucker for chocolate scents and I do like this one alot. Sure, it isn't the best most mouth watering one out there, but, I must say, it certainly does bring me lots of compliments when I wear it. Also, it seems as if alot of people do not know about this one, and that seems to be a huge bonus for me.

Try it, it's worth it and, I bet ya, it will grow on you! Nice.
19 July 2008

Blue Jeans by Versace

A classic and dare I say, misunderstood Versace classic. I think too many people wrote this off as a cheapy, but, IMO, they are way off base. I really like the galbanum in this much more so than in alot of others out there with the note. For some reason, it seems to really work well this fragrance - I think it is how it works with the nutmeg that I like so well, but I could be wrong as the florals may play a bigger role in it all together. The drydown is great and appropriate for all ages and for anytime of year as it is very sporty and casual. My favourite time to wear it is late summer, it seems it is a good way to bid adieu to T-shirts and blue jeans and move into sweaters. Fantastic.
19 July 2008

Blu Notte pour Homme by Bulgari

This is one smooth operator that I love dearly. To me, it is a treat to wear this because it is so fascinating. The opening is unlike anything else I have come across, except for it counterpart, BLV, obviously. I find this to be very similar to BLV, but, as I expected, a bit more intense with the ginger with more of an emphasis on the woody mid and base. My favourite part of it is the scent of dark chocolate that is utterly delicious smelling and just phenomenal. The woodiness in here is also nice and works well with the tobacco floral. One thing is for sure, this gem, and the regular BLV will always have treasured spot in my collection. 5 stars

Perry Ellis for Men (original) by Perry Ellis

I just got this again packaged as the "Anniversary Edition" after coming across the old bottle I had when I was a kid that I stole from my Dad! LOL! What an awesome fragrance, by far my favourite of the older Perry Ellis stable. It goes on strong and last forever. The dry down is very leathery, but for some reason also smells very tobacco-ish although it isn't in the pyramid. It smells dirty and utterly fabulous. Still holds up to this day. I'm glad I have it again.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Bleu Marine by Pierre Cardin

Well, I think this one is a great classic and it does not smell anywhere near cheap to me. I mean, this came out in 1986 people - an 80's scent that doesn't smell 80's is something to behold in my book!

IMO, it's fantastic and I LOVE to wear it. However, it could do with an extreme version updated to improve longevity, but otherwise, no complaints. :-)

Body Kouros by Yves Saint Laurent

This is HOT. That is all I can say, hot, hot, hot , hot and more HOT. I love this. My favourite YSL ever (well, thus far). IMO, it is perfect - I see nothing in common with anything else out there, very few similarities with anything at all (that I have yet to come across) that does it better. I definitely do not see the comments comparing this to Le Male at all - completely baffles me.

Punjab by Roberto Capucci

I was lucky enough to come across a bottle of this at an estate sale. What a great fragrance! I have not ever come across anything like it before, nor do I think I will, unless I make it myself. This smells divine, absolutely divine. It is very, very heavy, yet is so remarkable and not a typical 70's/80's scent and has not lost it's truly unique character to this day. I can only imagine what people thought when this came out - it must have been very out there - which would explain why it's gone. Too bad. A shame that it has been discontinued for so long and never brought back.

:-(

I feel very privileged to have a bottle of it. It is only worn on very special occasions.

Black Walnut by Banana Republic

This is an incredible offering from Banana Republic. Of everything they have done, this one is the most stylish and one that truly makes me think of this store as something more than just a mall shop. The cedar in this is done very tastefully, and never makes me tire of it, or remind me too much of an old cedar chest - I can not say that about alot of other scents heavy with cedar (I will leave nameless). That said, I put this on par with some other cedar fav's - Azzaro Visit and Gucci Rush, but I think I like this more! I do not like it better than Christian Lacroix's Tumulte, but almost.

Well done. RECOMMENDED.

Voile de Fleur by Tom Ford

Black Orchid is probably one of the best scents to come it awhile, but this version, IMHO, is even better. The arrangement of the floral notes is nothing short of breath taking and like Black Orchid, can work just as well on a man as well as a woman. For me I think the addition of the truffle also makes this a true stand out - yummy!

Notes (as listed by Sephora):

Black Truffle, Bergamot, Honeysuckle, Gardenia, Black Orchid, Black Pepper, Lotus Wood, Noir Gourmand Accord, Vanilla Tears, Patchouli, Balsam, Sandalwood.

The longevity of this is incredible, it will last all day and still amaze.

I think it is great for any season and works well everywhere.

5 stars. Great work!
18 July 2008

Black Orchid by Tom Ford

This one is a true modern classic. Words can not even describe how much I love this fragrance.

However, I must say, I think I like Voile de Fleur a bit better. Still, this is one of the most amazing out there and worth the cash, period.

Highly recommeded for both men and woman.
18 July 2008

Baby Blue Jeans by Versace

A great fragrance. Everything about it is great, starts off great, with a baby powder sort of effect and a fantastic long and varied drydown that goes through many stages. Ask me and I would recommend it to anyone. Without a doubt, it can work for teenagers as well as older men and everyone in between.

It will always have a place on my shelf - right there with the all the "Jeans" collection.

5 stars. Fabulous.
18 July 2008

Azzaro pour Homme by Azzaro

What a powerhouse! Starts off pungent and very dated, yet dries down to one of my favourites of this genre.

Very good stuff - lasts for hours on end and is good for everyone. Nicely done 70's classic.

RECOMMENDED.
18 July 2008

B*Men by Thierry Mugler

Why oh why has this been discontinued? I love it much more than A*men and wear it often. In my eyes, it is one of the best out there. Everytime I wear it, or smell it on someone else, it just peaks my fancy in so many ways. A dirty rotten shame this is no longer produced. :-(

Brilliant work. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
18 July 2008

Bazar Homme by Christian Lacroix

Christian Lacroix, one of my favourite designers of the day. Every scent this man has had his named graced upon has been a winner. However, this one is not one of them. While I enjoy the Yuzu, the rest of it is just too much like everything else, esp. ADG.

A good try, but I expect more from Mr. Lacroix.
18 July 2008

Aspen Discovery by Coty

This stuff is not that bad. It most certainly does remind me of nice mountain slopes.

The longevity of it is really good, even for a cologne, and the base is very pleasant.

It is worth having, but not one to seek out.
18 July 2008

Bellagio for Men by Fragluxe

I know why this stuff is all over the discount bins. Horrible.
18 July 2008

Bijan Style Men by Bijan

I can see Jon_Remy's review comparing this to Creed's Tabarome! I think Tabarome has it all over this one from the mid on, but the Bijan is still nice.

Notes:

TOP: lavender, clove and bergamot.

MIDDLE : vetiver, musk, citrus (mainly lime).

BASE: sandalwood and cedar.

I am glad I was given it. I won't be wearing it too often though. :-)
18 July 2008

Bijan for Men by Bijan

Wow! This one most certainly is loud and obnoxious. I do not see the relevance today, back in the day I can see where it fit in, but now, nope.

IMO, this is just plain yucky, not for me at all.

LOL, more power to those that love this 80's power scent, but I'll pass. :-)
18 July 2008

Bijan Nude for Men by Bijan

RECOMMENDED.

WOW...this is a sleeper. What a great fragrance! I actually can not believe how good this is. I was actually given this ( a 2.5 oz bottle with body wash and after shave balm) at a little perfume shop I visit often because it had sat so long with no takers . . . seriously. Anyway, I do not understand it, this stuff is GOOD and very sexy.

Notes are:

TOP : Herbaceous Greens, Citrus Fruits (lemon-lime and orange)

MID: Gardenia, Precious Woods, Black Pepper (???)

BASE: Amber and Musk

The creamy bottle for this is perfect, the overall effect of the juice is just that, creamy and sultry - never powdery. I find it very similar to some of the Tommy Bahama (TB) frag's right now, but better, and I love all the TB collection. :-)

The best thing about it - without a single doubt, is the Gardenia note. I tell you, this is definitely the best use of Gardenia I have ever come across in a men's scent. After is comes out, the pepper kicks in and I am sent into bliss. Soon then the final stages kick in and it couldn't get any better. However, it does progress rather quickly, but ohhh, is it good.

I will be wearing this often. A HUGE THUMBS UP AND A 5 STAR. I can not recommend this enough!
18 July 2008

Arpège pour Homme by Lanvin

Ahh, the house of Lanvin . . . I love it. Of all the offerings from this house I think Arpège is my favourite. It never disappoints and is great from start to finish. Every step is done smoothly and very tastefully and there is nothing that needs to be done to make this any better as it is perfect.

IMO, this works well for the forward thinking workplace and can be used for almost any occasion.

I put this right up there with Dior Homme as on of my all time favourites - a true classic. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
18 July 2008

Armani Mania by Giorgio Armani

The other scent of Chicago, along with Code. The saffron makes this the star in my book and is its one redeeming quality as I love the scent and don't smell it to terribly often. As for the rest, likeable, but nothing to exciting.

Woman seem to like this on me alot and it always brings compliments and queries. Therefore, I can definitely see the appeal for most guys.

A thumbs up for the use of saffron and a thumbs down for mediocrity gives this a neutral.
18 July 2008

Armani Eau Pour Homme by Giorgio Armani

A very nice classic. IMO, well suited for executive suit wearing types of the "American Psycho" variety or the middle-aged executive who has earned his position.

I most certainly do not see this as casual in anyway shape or form. A suit and tie are a must with this one, period.
18 July 2008

Armani Code / Black Code by Giorgio Armani

This scent reminds me of one thing - Chicago. The same goes for Mania. Everytime I am in that city I smell this EVERYWHERE and I love it, albeit, it still disturbs me. In any event, it is a very refined scent and one I particularly enjoy on others. Good for all occasions and an overall safe choice for those not wanting to shake things up more than a stir. The minty-olive notes are especially nice and the woodsy powder of the base is done rather well, but I prefer Emporio Night He over this any time, anywhere, period. Still a thumbs up.
18 July 2008

Emporio Armani Night He by Giorgio Armani

One of my favourites from the Emporio Armani collection, actually I think this IS my favourite. This one works especially well with Armani sweaters in the winter. Perfect for a night out or a meet and greet, but also works perfectly well for an afternoon lunch - it well set the mood for later. Sensual and very sexy.

Highly recommended. A VERY enthusiastic Thumbs UP!
18 July 2008

Aramis Life by Aramis

A nice addition to the wardrobe, nothing to special, but good. This one seems to work better in moderation. It seems the less you wear, the better it is. I especially like the violet note and the drydown is nice.

2-3 sprays will do it nicely for all day. A thumbs up!
18 July 2008

Antaeus by Chanel

Brilliant. From start to finish, pure class. It was destined to be a classic. Fascinating choice for a name. Recommended.
17 July 2008

Amazing for Men by Bill Blass

I have no qualms with the smell of the fragrance, in fact, I really like it. However, it does not like me! Almost immediately after applying this, I had one of the worst allergy attacks in my life. Anytime I am near it, I can not breathe. Never has this happened with a fragrance to this extent with me before. Allergy sufferers beware!
17 July 2008

Allure Homme Edition Blanche by Chanel

This one took a while to grow on me, but now, it's my favourite of the Allure lot. IMO, I like it much better than Sport. It seems a bit better rounded and I like the progression a bit better - esp. the mix of leather and vanilla.

Well Done. Recommended.
17 July 2008

Allure Homme by Chanel

One of my favourite scents of all time. It's brilliant all the way around. I love to wear it out, has always been a proven winner and never disappoints. The pepper note is superb, one of the best out there, IMO. Recommended.
17 July 2008

Adidas Moves by Adidas

A buddy of mine put this on after a night of mad raving and it's an expected piece of history now. We stopped a corner store and they had this "new" Adidas cologne. So there we stood decked out in Adidas and he bought a bottle - I was happy wearing my Chanel. Anyway, it was love at first smell. There was this kind of "minty odd apple that's been on the tree too long scent" to it that was just awesome. So, we left, went to a pub up the street and it drove me crazy - I had to run down and get a bottle. It's been with me ever since.
17 July 2008

Adidas Dynamic / Dynamic Pulse by Adidas

Not the best of the Adidas stable, BUT, not bad either. This one just doesn't have much to say and doesn't seem as well made as some of the others. I agree, it reminds me of a weaker version of Hugo Men, but it still has it's own character, just not much of a personality.
17 July 2008

Adidas Victory League 2006 by Adidas

I think it is brilliant scent! It reminds me of Varvatos, but, something about it also reminds me of Chanel Allure - I am not sure what. I bought a set that contains shower gel, deodorant, body spray , and 3.4 EDT for 20 US Dollars. The scent lasts a long time and definitely smells of quality. I REALLY like the slight smell of grass in it and cinnamon. Notes are as follows:

Top notes of Bergamot, basil, and grass.

Middle notes of lavender, pear, and cinnamon.

Base notes of cedar, vanilla, and musk.

I am glad I have it. Another good job by Adidas :-)
17 July 2008

Adidas Adrenaline by Adidas

An awesome cheapy to keep around. When I do wear it, compliments abound. Very Nice. In fact, ALL Adidas scents have been good. Recommended.
17 July 2008

Acqua di Giò pour Homme by Giorgio Armani

It's a classic, that's all that can be said. It seems this one set the standard for comparison on the others (and there are tons of them).

Still . . It's a great original work from a brilliant house, just mimicked way, WAY too much. BUT . . .

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery they say! :-)
17 July 2008

A*Men / Angel Men by Thierry Mugler

Everytime I smell this I go crazy. I love it! A true classic. I originally thought of this as a winter only scent, however, I am starting to change my opinion lately. It's great anytime. Great work!
17 July 2008

4711 Echt Kölnisch Wasser by 4711

I revisited this again and know why this is such a classic. Why I always neglect this gem and go for the Guerlain Imperiale is beyond me - this is just as good and very similar. Just put this on after a workout and all is good, just make sure you have plenty and/or something else to wear with it because it is great, but fleeting. I simply decanted some into a small diffuser to freshen up whenever. Awesome.
17 July 2008

Mat; Very Male by Masakï Matsushïma

One of the best uses of Anise I have come across. Recommended.
17 July 2008

Neroli Portofino by Tom Ford

I rather enjoy this one. The opening is without a doubt a very heavy yet airy Neroli which seems to stay throughout the entire drydown process. As it starts to develop a few more florals lightly come out. Next, a VERY nice crisp citrus note that reminds me of the smell of orange and lemon fruit stripe gum starts to dominate for a little while (a stage I find extremely satisfying)! Lastly, the bottom amber notes become more apparent ending in a very sensual and almost effervescent way. All the while the scent never, ever comes close to being a let down - every step is a good one.

Brilliant work. Thanks, Tom :-)
17 July 2008

Habit Rouge Eau de Toilette Légère by Guerlain

IMO, one of the most fantastic scents ever from Guerlain. Perfect from start to finish and a great compliment to the original! This version has that little extra flair to make a huge difference in "wearabilty." I think that Mr. Guerlain explained it pretty well. A HUGE THUMBS UP and 5 STAR RATING!!
17 July 2008

Versace pour Homme by Versace

Anyone who knows me knows I am a complete Versace disciple and have been for years. However, I have to say after getting this in a lovely gift basket (thank you, BTW, you know who you are), and wearing it today, I am, sadly, a bit disappointed. I am sorry to say it, but it just smells too much like everything else out there right now, period. Now, don't get me wrong, it is nice and sticks around ALOT longer than some others, but it just plain flat is nothing that special.

I will unfortunately have to file it away with Metal Jeans (my other least favourite Versace fragrance) and continue wearing Time for Action as my Versace scent of choice.
16 July 2008

Aqua Allegoria Angélique Lilas by Guerlain

What a wonderful scent. I think this works well for men as well. I LOVE IT! It smells exactly like breezes coming through my window emanating from my sun kissed (and dew drenched) garden on a lovely Spring morning. Utterly Fantastic.

Notes:

White Lilly of the Valley, Lilac, Pink Peppercorns, Seville Orange, and Jasmine, soothed with Ylang-Ylang and Heliotrope.

I especially love the Heliotrope in it, BRILLIANT. In my opinion, almost the perfect scent for me.

I love Guerlain :-)

14 July 2008

Amber Absolute by Tom Ford

Nthny could not have put this any better. This incense is extraordinary and most certainly conjures up some very interesting imagery. I do not regret getting this at all and will be wearing it VERY often. NICE! A HUGE THUMBS UP! :-)
12 July 2008

Pi Neo by Givenchy

I really like this! The top and mid notes are like a light Anise, but it smells straight from the flowers, not overbearing in any way, just light and beautiful and ALOT different than I was expecting - an awesome surprise, IMO :-). There is a very sharp scent that develops as well in a citrusy way (the bergamot/mandarin maybe?) - very interesting, it is so subdued in a nice tobaccoish accord that so presents itself in a very discreet way! NICE!

There is definitely a large concentration myrtle, which I love that mixes well with the base which is much less, if at all, about patchouli than it is about soft amber and the signature Pi benzoin/vanilla note (toned way, WAY down). I also get a cocoa butter type of thing going on as well...

I think the thing that makes this interesting is the way it all works together, it reminds me of things that are in the here and now, but, oddly, constructed in a different manner. It kind of warms you up, not hot, or anything, just warm - it makes you aware that there is something there. It develops like no other I have come across - smooth like the workings of the Matrix .

So, that being said, I can see what was talked about and what the aim of the composition is - and, it's brilliant. I can not wait to see what other creations will come out of this and, of course, I'll be waiting . . .

See:

http://www.parfumsgivenchy.com/pineo/index_EN.html

Nice job for those involved in the creation of this. A HUGE THUMBS UP!

Boucheron pour Homme by Boucheron

Don't wear too much of this...eeckk...just one spray of the EDP is a powdery overdose that will not go away. Great if you like that sort of thing, but it's simply not for me.
22 August 2008

Metal Jeans Men by Versace

When this first came out, I hands down didn't like it at all. However, upon revisiting it again after several years, I have to say it has grown on me. I think this is in large part to the fact that I got it in the dead of winter while I was staying in Illinois. Now, in the middle of winter, this would be horrendous, but, in the middle of summer (or in warmer climates), it is not bad at all!

I will concur with the others, the watermelon is what makes this stand out from the others in the genre, but the drydown of gaiac wood and amber is very similar to alot of others out there, think ADG etc...

So, on that note . . . I have to say that its good, but not great. I would advise one to buy it can be found, if not, well, I think you'll survive if you don't. Still, I am glad I have it as part of the entire Jeans collection!
15 August 2008

Dior Homme Sport by Christian Dior

This is certainly a citrus behemoth! Wow does the citrus last and last and LAST. I have to say that I am impressed! The top notes linger throughout the entire drydown, which is saying alot for citrus - most of us know that generally, they do not stick around long, but this definitely does. The mid of cedar is very subdued and the cedar that is used is more of a sweet scent - not too woody in the base. The part I like the most is the "ginger accord," it is a fantastic way to round it all off.

While I like this, it is no way near the same as Dior Homme - which will forever be one of my favourites. However, this one is a fine addition to the Dior arsenal. Nice.
15 August 2008

Don't Get Me Wrong Baby, I Don't Swallow by Etat Libre d'Orange

I am sorry, I do not get this one at all. It's kinda nice, but so sickeningly sweet it makes me want to gag. Hmmm...hence the name? Maybe, I like this better than I tought. . .
05 July 2008

Set Sail South Seas for Men by Tommy Bahama

This is everything I like about St. Barts and improved! Longer lasting, better opening, and better sillage. Awesome - a perfect scent for summer.
05 July 2008

Black by Pierre Cardin

I picked this for dirt cheap at a drug store in lovely Chicago Illinois while stuck there during a blizzard :-(. Anyway, I put it on, didn't think much of it, it was an impulse buy only (6 US Dollars for 1.5 oz), and low and behold . . . something lovely happened a little later.

While the scent stayed very close to the skin, it did carry when I least expected it . . . A couple hours later I was asking myself what it was I smelled that was so heavenly, and it was this!! Thing is, it had all but vanished from my skin; it was on my messenger bag that caught the access spray!

So, my verdict, its new lot in my life is . . . a fabric refresher.

Eau Parfumée au Thé Verte by Bulgari

I hate to say it, but this is just awfully boring. Too common, I do not care for it at all . . . Sorry :-(
05 June 2008

Santa Fe for Men by Aladdin Fragrances

I can not believe that I have NEVER tried this before. However, upon stumbling upon a 1.7 ounce bottle for 2 bucks, I just had to buy it. Long story short, I like it, ALOT. The sandalwood drydown is very good, and I agree it smells an awful lot like Third Man, just cheaper. Good stuff!
25 May 2008

By Night Jette by Jette Joop

I picked it up for 6 bucks without a cap at a Gordman's store a few days ago. The bottle caught my eye because it was in the MEN'S section (between Versace and Bvlgari). I was perplexed as I never heard anything about a Men's version, nor cared, may I add . . . SO anyway, long story short, I tried it on my wrist and went back to the office. The result: EVERYONE was loving it - compliments all around (male and female). Yay!

I researched it further and realized it was indeed for women. However, it worked very well on me and no one ever questioned me about it being to girly, therefore, to me, it's unisex. One woman even said I smelled good enough to eat! Whoa . . . I think you can see my point.

That being said, I decided to go back and buy it a couple days later.

Now after buying it, I still like it, but something about it is nauseating (several sprays arms, neck, chest) in the base after ohh, 7 hours . . . Believe me people, this stuff lasts 4EVER. GO very easy on it. A spray on the wrists goes a very, very, very long way and worn sparingly, this stuff is fantastic. TOO much though, horrendous.

Insensé Ultramarine Aromatic Ocean - Midnight Swim by Givenchy

Simple and fantastic. I wish I would have bought more of this. I LOVE it!
17 April 2008

Dolce Vita by Christian Dior

I ran across a sample vial of this at the bottom of an old Dior shaving kit I bought a Neiman Marcus YEARS ago ... it just finally saw the light of day a couple weeks ago after being in storage since 1996!! Anyway, I tried it to see what it was like and was FLOORED!!! This scent is simply DIVINE!! I thought to myself, "I don't care if this is not a men's scent, this should be for EVERYBODY."

I ordered a bottle the very next day.

All I can say is this . . . guys, don't be afraid to try this, IMHO, Dior should market this as unisex. Everything about it is plain HOT. It’s deep, sensual, sweet, and sexy. The sandalwood, heliotrope, and vanilla base is one of the best I have come across and to me, arguably, masculine. In fact, thinking about it, I can not even think of anything remotely close . . . Give it a try! It’s fantastic for fall/winter. VERY HOT!

Thanks again Dior, you never cease to amaze me! I LOVE IT!!!!

Insensé Ultramarine Ice Cube by Givenchy

I just picked this up at the airport in Honolulu. Very nice! I didn't know exactly what to expect, but I like it! It could last a little longer, but it's
