Virgin Island Water is precise, tropical, and enjoyable. It’s a satisfying, competent fragrance. The top presents a refreshing citrus / coconut accord. Very soon it becomes creamy – heavier on the coconut, lighter on the lime to my nose. It’s very nice. The middle florals and spice retain the coconut note, as does the musky, sweet base… the rum seems quite weak to me. I see the fragrance as basically linear because of the coconut. As much as I like Virgin Island Water, I’ve smelled pretty much the same thing in a few other recent fragrances. Concerning it’s relative place in the hierarchy of tropical fragrances, I just don’t know where it is positioned, and I’m not interested enough in the genre to investigate that particular hierarchy. Virgin Island Water is an attractive fragrance but I just can’t shake the feeling that I could get about the same experience from a bottle of sun tan oil. One final thought: it’s not feminine on my skin, it’s creamy, it’s coconut, and it’s very pleasant… and, no, I’m not talking about Coppertone… but I could be.

Terrible.

It smells just like chap coconut/sugar room sprays. It has a very inhumane, unnatural, and demode feeling to it. I tested it, I detested it, and later I had to spend a whole night with a guy who was wearing it. It is simply terrible to my nose, because it doesn't even smell like sunscreen or deserts in which coconut note are most apparent. No, this smells very generic.

I really don't like it, because it is just not a sophisticated scent. It is not deep, or well-thought out. It is just so lazy. I believe Creed is a company that puts out mostly mundane scents, but because of their price points and so-called exclusivity, they believe they can get away with a devastating lack of originality and finesse.

Yes, 'the expensive juices in the flask' still look cool, but they no longer carry sophistication they once did.

Nice scent, does smell reminiscent of Bath and Body Works Coconut Lime Verbena but with the Creed edge and depth. I would wear this for summer but for a summer fun niche scent it should not cost as much or more than the mainstay Creeds that are all year rounders.

Coconut, lime and rum. How much more Caribbean can you get? Out of place in any other months but the hot, hot summer. A very bright and playful boozy scent that's on the other side of the spectrum as Paul Smith London where that's much, much darker but still heavy on the boozy smell. I'd rather be at the real place than to imagine what it'd be like.

If this was a body spray or lotions at Bath & Body Works, I'd probably buy it. There is no way I'd pay $110.0 for an ounce of this stuff, though. Virgin Island Water is so much like Ananas Fizz on my skin, that I've actually confused them. Virgin Island Water is heavy on the coconut, though, while Ananas Fizz highlights pineapple. Virgin Island Water has fabulous lasting power. It's a refreshing, sugary, coconut-citrus, rum cocktail of a fragrance. This is nice for men and women, especially in hot, humid weather. If I didn't already have a huge bottle of Ananas Fizz I might be tempted by Virgin Island Water, but I doubt I'll be purchasing this scent.

I agree with the others in that Virgin Island Water is a very basic scent: coconut, pineapple, and sugar. It also reminds me of a coconut scented suntan lotion during the drydown, albeit way sweeter than any lotion could be. It's not bad but if I were looking for a scent like this, then I would opt of L'artisan Ananaz Fizz or CSP Vanille Coco before I bought a bottle of the Creed. I find those to be more groundbreaking rather than just on par with other tropical scents. However, Virgin Island Water does earn points for good sillage and longevity.

I had high expectations for this, but I must admit I am a bit disappointed. My initial reaction is that it smells good, but quite a bit like coconut-flavoured cookies; and although I like eating cookies, I wouldn't want to smell like one.

I have been wearing Virgin Island Water(VIW) for over a month now, and it was quite a hit over the recent spring break. As a rule, I dont like coconut in fragrances (Frederic Malle's Carnal Flower is about the only one to execute a coconut note with panache in recent memory). I detest sweet fragrances even more. VIW is guilty of breaking both rules, yet somehow it works - quite wonderfully I might add.

A splash of tart natural lime opens the fragrance - it smells refreshing and very natural, and I expect no less from Creed since they do citrus extremely well. Shortly thereafter, coconut makes an appearance - at first it just peeks behind the lime curtain drawn earlier, but slowly it makes its presence felt. The coconut is obvious, but never overwhelms the composition, and thats where VIW succeeds. Jasmin and ylang ylang add a more floral feel to the composition in the heart notes, but before the composition threatens to get too saccharine, notes of ginger and rum come to the rescue and balance the composition beautifully. Longevity? Despite being a citrus fragrance, I got 8 hours out of it easily. With lime and ginger on top and a rum base, the sandwiched-in-between coconut toddy has quite an enjoyable time pumping out attractive sillage.

Comparisons to Bath & Body Works Coconut Lime and Verbena: ViW smells deceptively simple at first. Some critics have dismissed it as an overpriced Bath and Body Works Coconut Lime and Verbena cologne. This is like dismissing all EdCs because they smell very similar and share most of the ingredients. I have used CoconutLimeandVerbena products and they are nice and refreshing. At a higher level of abstraction CLV does share some key ingredients (lime and coconut) with VIW, but has zero depth. A deeper analysis of VIW reveals many hidden facets like a strange subtle spicy woody note (hibiscus + ginger), jasmine sweetness and a wonderful drydown of rum and musk.

Warm weather seems to brings the best out of VIW, and as I mentioned earlier, it was quite a hit at a recent spring break outing. I got all sorts of inquiries as to what I was wearing. "That smell delicious!", "Rum and coconut?", to "Whats that smell (in a good way)?". An instant classic? Its too early to tell. For now, I will just enjoy this sexy and fun fragrance come the intense summers ...

Virgin Island Water opens up with a zesty, sparkling lime note and then coconut, musk and rum start to appear and mingle, which create a sheer tropical fragrance. It is clear that very high quality ingredients were used to create this as it definitely has an “expensive” smell about it. Virgin Island Water would be perfect to wear pool-side at the Hotel Guanahani in St. Barts. It is casual yet quite chic.

I am not usually fond of coconut, but I find it to be tempered by the lime, making it balanced. The rum and musk accord that emerges is pleasant. A playful Creed, very different than any other I have tried. I will not buy it for myself, but I think it merits consideration for summery scent. I think it would work well for both men and women.

ZZTOPP's commentary regarding this Creed is perfect! I will be purchasing Virgin Island Water come summer 2008!

Well, summer's around the corner and I've got my VIW ready to go! This stuff has gotten alot of undeserved bad press. I'll tell you this: it does not smell like suntan lotion. It does not smell like a drink. It does not even smell like B&BW Coconut Lime Verbena. Nope. What it DOES smell like is zesty citrus...lime...fresh and bright. The coconut is creamy and light, not too sweet, and definitely not like any lotion. The delicate florals are barely perceptable, but give balance so that this playfully classy elixir never comes off 'foody'. VIW is also completely unisex! My husband and I love it on eachother! Remarkably tenacious, and perfect for hot humid weather or a balmy summer evening. This is the only Creed I own, because it's worth owning!

This is a divine and delicious scent! You start the day smelling like Pina Coladas and then Baked Alaska (yes, its a desert!) a short time after, at the dry down. I'm not a big fan of coconut scents but VIW manages to combine it with just the right accents to turn what I would consider an ordinarily stuffy odor into a delectable summertime aroma. I got complements on it right away and whisked the day away day dreaming of bronze tanned wahines doing the hula in their coconut shell bras and grass skirts amidst a backdrop of sea and sand.

I am aware that many reviews feel the coconut is too overpowering and leaves the skin smelling like suntan lotion but that is also it's strong point (I like the smell of suntan lotion personally!). In fact, for a coconut scent, I find the overall scent surprisingly light, with the citrus overtones and the rum and cane sugar base notes to temper it. Alas, I do agree that the longevity is an issue here. The full gamut of the scent lasts only a few hours, only leaving a trail of suntan lotion smell for the rest of the day, which, like I said, is not a bad thing, although I was hoping to smell like an edible and creamy desert for the ladies for a little longer!

This scent opens with sky blue and lemon yellow, gradually drying down to caramel hues with an eggshell white and ochre finish. In my opinion, barring the longevity issue, this is the best perfume of 2007.

This was a blind buy, those notes just sounded too good, big mistake! Definitely the SMW note in there, but not as interesting. The lime becomes too cloying and the coconut annoying. A tad over rated.

It's unfortunate that I have to write my first review here about my disappointment with Creed's Virgin Island Water.

I'm going to make it short and direct: The sweet coconut smell on this fragrance is just too overpowering. There is not even a hint of subtlety on the coconut smell. Sure, my sense of smell is not that sophisticated to pick out the rest of the ingredients of this fragrance...but so are a lot of people!

I'm sorry, but unless you will be on the beach all day for summer walk, I cannot think of any other occasion where this fragrance is appropriate.

Oh, and one more thing: it doesn't last very long, either.

I'm afraid that only Filipinos will understand this: if you want to smell like "pan de coco" (i certainly do not), then this is your fragrance. IMO, people smelling you will make them hungry, not find you appealing.

I ordered this 7 months ago to wear during the summer months and it just arrived. I love it's simplicity and freshness. It reminds me of Puerto Rico. The Rum is great. Yes you might end up smelling like a cocktail, but what could be better during the heat of summer. Overall It's a fun fragrance, though not worth the retail price.

Like Erolfa, I expected more from this.
The bottle and name are beautiful, but the scent is dominated by Lime Initially, and the drydown is not enough Coconut or Hibiscus I think.

It's a very good unisex cologne, but for the price consumer deserves a stronger, richer version of the same scent.

I'm glad I waited through 3 full wearings to put down my opinion here. I'm liking it more and more and also finding the longevity is pretty good, especially for a Creed. The first time I thought I was getting coconut and not much more, but now I'm getting more of the lime and some rum too. Overall I am starting to enjoy this.

Amazing! Beach in a bottle. A bit pricey, but... again, an AMAZING smell.

The only thing is...
it doesn't last on me!
But i dont think Creed has ever let me down, ill try it again!

I LOVE IT THOUGH!

meh... coconut, lime and salt; it makes me hungry. In my opinion it is not worth the money as it is just too bland, simple, unimaginative. Compared to Erolfa, SMW, and MI, this scent is a rather mediocre creation from creed. TRue, they improved the longevity but they delivered linearity. I can think of many scents under $30 that smell more complex and distinctive (Including a couple of CK's).

This is not a 'serious' scent. And that, I am discovering, is no bad thing.

You know that effortlessly cool, laid-back Jack Johnson (musician) surfy kind of guy? This is him in a bottle. It's about sunshine and picnics and letting your hair blow in the wind. It's happy and it smells of holidays and good things. You might like to wear it to the office if you need to remind yourself to be a little less uptight, but you'd probably prefer it on the weekend.

I like it very much, despite initially being concerned about the idea of a coconut note (memories of sickly teenage perfume oils). The lime in the opening balances the coconut and keeps it mouthwatering rather than sweet or cloying. It dries down into an elegant warm blend that doesn't scream 'tanning oil'. It's very much unisex, though faint-hearted chaps might be scared by the coconut. Don't let it put you off. Courage mes braves!

Many have given some great reveiws of this fragrance, so in short I will say that this fragrance stays close to the skin and it would seem you would have to reapply because it seem to have only lasted for several minutes. This is a very lovely fragrance. Coconut is very intriguing and the drydown is excellent; longevity and staying power is very weak though.

Nice, but…

Both my wife and I tried Virgin Island Water, and both came to the same conclusion: it’s very pretty, but it smells too much like suntan lotion to spend hundreds of dollars on. Coconut is the villain here. Well-integrated coconut can lend fragrances a certain creamy richness, as in Philosykos, Carnal Flower, or Dawn Spencer Hurwitz’s Bamboo. But when it’s prominent and isolated, as in Virgin Island Water, it quickly gets me thinking “Coppertone.” Maitre Parfumeur et Gantier’s Bahiana is another tropical fruit blend that’s spiked with coconut, but I find its coconut in better balance, effectively blended with a rich base of gaiac and rosewood. If you’re looking for a tropical cocktail scent for the summer, I suggest you try both Virgin Island Water and Bahiana. Each has its strengths, but one might suit you better than the other.

A citrus burst, tastefully constructed coconut (quite an achievement and just what I expected from Creed), mellow white musk is what I predominantly get from VIW. It's pleasant, very topical (vacation, cocktail bars, Caribean parties) and slightly on the feminine side. A winner, but too expensive at full retail.

I tested Virgin Island Water at the department store and absolutely adored it. It is youthful and fun. It smells like sun and surf in a bottle. It is very different from the other Creed's scents where they usually have an ambergeris or stronger traditional favour. Other reviewers have summed up all the good points about this scent. IMHO, it smells like an expensive version of the J.Lo's Miami Glow which is versatile, unisex and perfect company for a vacation on the deck or at a resort. It has a very welcoming sillage and reasonable longevity on my skin. I think I am going to get a bottle soon.

This was a blind buy from a fellow BNer and boy! am I glad I took the plunge on the d****t. As others have had happen - an opening zing of fresh lemon with coconut and a soupcon of rum. Mellows down sweetly to sugary beach lotion. Creamy - tropical. A total winner!!

After procuring a sample of this for my other half, I decided to test it for myself. I was highly relieved to find there were none of the nasty marine notes I so detest. VIW starts with a lovely zingy lime, with hint of very well blended coconut and a hint of spicy booze that reminds me of the Old Spice my dad used to wear when I was a child.
The longevity is excellent - I keep getting fragrant wafts of this where I applied it on my chest. A really good summer scent.

I really love this.. it's so unique and completely addicting. The initial blast of coconut is really quite pleasant and fades quickly into a welcoming, sweet scent that you almost can't get enough of. It's extremely subtle and you almost can't spray too much... which you'll have to do as it dries down to a very quiet smell.

I thought the longevity was a big problem at first, however, the other day I picked up a shirt that I was wearing two days prior the soft Virgin Island Water smell was still present and really quite pleasant.

I think this fragrance is great for casual environments and does a great job of scenting the person wearing it, not the area around the wearer.

It started off with a pleasant burst of lime, lasting for almost an hour, then close to the skin I could smell a blend of coconut and woods for the next few hours. It's a very quiet scent on me, something I would use on a warm day or night when the glacial blasts of Slatkin Absinthe or Guerlain Mentafolia would be too much. I wish this had more sillage, like MPG Bahaiana, because the coconut part is really intriguing. I can easily see this being worn by any age or gender.

I've had a bottle of this for a month now and now I think I can properly review it. I was kind of mad at myself for paying retail price for it, since it's a bit less versatile than some of my other Creeds that I've bought for less. But since I wanted to be the first kid on my block to get this, it goes with the territory...

OK, this is a unique fragrance. The notes I get are lime, white rum, coconut, and musk predominantly. This scent doesn't drydown in pyramid fashion, nor is it linear. The notes each come and go and come and go almost randomly--as if each was carried by its own independent breeze.

This scent goes on a bit oily, which does give it a slight buttery suntan lotion feel. But the real upside is the amazing longevity I get from this. I applied one spray to the upper chest over 12 hours ago, and it's still going strong. And I bet I'll still be able to smell it several hours later. Amazing balance of sillage/longevity and at the same time-- never overpowering. The perfect balance is achieved.

As far as versatility-- this is a summer/spring vacation scent-- It's not something you'd probably want to wear to a funeral, under any circumstances. It's very unisex, and though there is the ylang-ylang note, it doesn't smell feminine. It does smell a bit "thematic"--you probably won't want to smell like a Malibu and Coke with lime every day, even in the summer... but on those days when you do decide to wear it, you are going to make friends fast!

Again, the longevity I get out of this is tops! Sure there's coconut, but where some people think this smells like a pina colada--for me, with the prominent fresh lime and rum, I get more of a cuba libré vibe from this on my skin. The lime note in this is a force to be reckoned with. Quite a different style for a Creed, but the Creed quality is evident.

Thumbs up!

Tried this for the first time yesterday, it was love at first sniff. On first spray it's a wonderfully refreshing burst of lime, that dries down to a warm coconutty glow. Like others have said, it's coconut without the sun lotion aspect. Very summery, quite light but good longevity. So good I bought a bottle, and that's coming from someone who hates coconut!!

went to Neiman Marcus to purchase Silver Mountain Water and heard about Virgin Island Water and I instantly got a wiff of a crowded beach or swimming pool. it smells like suntan lotion...but in a good way. Very yummy, not for a straight guy. But works for a black guy like me that will never wear suntan lotion, but love the smell.
Instant classic? never.
Awesome summer scent? a resoundiing yes

It wasn't what I was hoping for. Transparent scent of suntan oil that didn't last the hour. Somehow I was hoping for something more blended (the coconut was just too prominent on my skin), more captivating, more of everything! Hoping the new Tommy Bahama St. Barth has a lot more merit.

I found this one to smell very nice at first. What I found to really stand out were the ginger, lime, and coconut notes and it reminded me of drinks you'd normally get on holiday in some swanky resort in the tropics on a gorgeous beach. So a very leisurely, fresh vibe to it. However, after about an hour of wearing it, I had this whiff of fermented citrus/ rotten ginger and actually thought of checking my bag to see whether I hadn't forgotten a tangerine in it... That pong turned out to be the drydown, and it's a real pity because the opening notes were so fresh ans natural as zztopp said. I suppose that the scent I perceived as being "fermented" must have been the one intented to smell like white rum (which is after all fermented sugar cane juice, so...), but hey, not all of us have the olfactory finesse of Oliver/Erwin Creed. So I suppose that altough it is an interesting and pretty fragrance at first, it's not really one I, for one, would find very wearable because of the alcoholic drydown.

Just got the long awaited Virgin Island Water yesterday. A truly unique scent, though not as deep or complex as some other Creeds.

A citrusy opening is all but gone in fifteen minutes to become a coconut and sweet musky scent. The middle notes remind me of many of the popular "sweet male/unisex fragrances" that are on the market today, except that it has coconut in it, and lots of it! Sometimes it reminds me of Malibu coconut rum, one of my favorite drinks! I hope people around me won't think that I'm an alcoholic everytime I wear Virgin Island Water!

After a few hours, the dry-down becomes a musky vanilla and the coconut is a lot less perceivable.

Longevity is good, especially considering that I did not think that it was possible to make the smell of coconut last so long in a fragrance.

This will become an instant success, because for the first time, Creed has followed the trend that is the "sweet male/unisex freagrance". But at the same time, it has stayed unique by adding coconut to the infusion and as with all Creeds, it smells so natural, not artificial like many other scents on the market.

Not as stunning or unique as my beloved Original Vetiver and Himalaya(my signature summer and winter scents), but still a great fragrance both in summer and winter. If you love coconut, which many people seem to, don't delay, get a bottle now!

Let me confess, over the past five years, Creed fragrances have been a mixed bag for me. My absolute favorite frag is "Green Irish Tweed" (GIT. Probably always will. It's a genuine original, deliciously addictive, great by itself, garners many compliments, and layers well with almost any other cologne I own. After GIT, I've been rather underwealmed by the other Creeds, including Imperial and Silver Mountain Water; and Erolfa is just . . . well, weird. Original Vetiver smelled like grass (the kind you mow), and Original Santal smelled like Joop. So, when my decant of Virgin Island Water arrived, I was skeptical. But I didn't need to be. This stuff is first class all the way! The Top Citrus Notes include just a hint of mint and coconut, and Creed pulls it off in a major way. Then, it spins some genuine magic as it settles into an earthy-spicy vibe that lingers longer than any Creed I've ever worn. In fact, it's unlike any other Creed, period. I think the Creeds have outdone themselves with this one. Next to GIT, it's the most ORIGINAL and distinctive Creed fragrance I've encountered. And while it's GREAT by itself, it also layers quite well with GIT. On my Creed list, VIW ranks a solid #2, with a bullet!

I smell this at Neiman Marcus and really enjoyed it. The sales associate said, "It's a vacation in a bottle." I would have to agree. Some will find it to generic smelling but i thought it was coconuty and reminiscent of the beach, without being to overwhelming.

I have just received a sample of this and have to admit that i am a bit dissapointed. Fron now on, no more blind impulse purchases on Creed fragrances anymore.

This one opens with a freshness, but not the typical freshnes of citrus like in previous Creed colognes; it is slightly sapped with Coconut.

As it progresses, gone is the freshness and light sweetness and powderiness sets it but without typical Creed aqua signature. It doesn't change very much even much later on.

On thing about it, aside from not being very well suited for a man, is the effects it can have on you. It can put you in a good mood or make you slightly randy if you know what i mean. Thats probably due to aprodisiac effects of high quality ylang-ylang and musk.

Overall, this smell s like a glucose shot to me. It is sweet, not suitable to summers and without sublime distinction; it is very light and mild though.

What has happened to Creed quality? Here is what....Creed has stared to mass produce now; became too market oriented....gone are quality days when someone that is actually talented spends several years creating a single masterpiece. Creeds do not have talent....but only quality ingriendiends and family secrets of the trade due to long tradition and thats why there is no real flare to them. On the other hand, if you like a Creed cologne it is kind of hard to get sick of it. Some of them take some time to figure them out completely.

Now his son Edwin, from Italian mother, will ruin Creed already modest talent. Italians were never genetically capable of producing sublime quality of perfume like French can do. He just doesn't have it; he thinks that any change to set standards is always good plus he just doesn't have the "gift" like in the movie "Perfumer" with Dustin Hoffman.

Don't buy this....rather wait it out until he comes with yet another flop. But you never know...

This is a wonderful and perhaps more youthful addition to the Creed line.

This is the scent to run for when the winter doldrums have settled in and you need a dose of spring.

Imagine lying on a resort style beach, drinking a mojito, all lathered up in the finest suntan lotion. Combine the smell of the cocktail, the warm skin, the lotion, the ocean and the sun - and there you have it! YUM!

Coconut and lime? Without a doubt! Summer fun? Sure. Unisex? Ehhh, maybe. Coconut and lime are the stars in this production but all of the other bit players in the pyramid play their supporting roles well in order to create a scent that is sweet, but not heavy or cloying. With coconut sharing the billing in this show it's unisex nature can easily come into question. I find this fragrance falls into the same category as Un Jardin sur le Nil, a womens scent that a man could wear in certain situations. Jardin sports a crisp grapfruit note that gives it range across most summer applications whereas Virgin Island Water's Coconut lends itself more so to outdoor/fun applications.

The initial citrus burst of lime is perfectly balanced with the scent of coconut. With drydown, the lime sadly dissipates much too quickly. The lingering base of tonkin musk/coconut was quite powdery on my wrist. Not unpleasant but not what I was hoping for. Too feminine.
On the upside - Longevity was better than anticipated. Also, not an overly cloying or sweet fragrance.
I won't comment on sillage as I had only applied some to one wrist.
For this price, not a good 'blind buy'.

Virgin Island Water by Creed

I’m on Maui and my skin is lightly tanned, I’ve been scuba diving and laying in the sun most of the day. My body feels well used as if I’ve just had a good workout, muscles slightly sore. I’ll head back to the Spa where I will have a mineral scrub and soak before my massage, after rinsing in tepid water I’ll dry off and splash on my Island Water with complete abandon. I’ll wrap myself in a silk sarong and head out to my balcony that over looks the deep ever changing sea. It’s still quite warm and as a slight breeze caresses me I’m aware of the scent of citrus, all kinds, not the sweet fruit but the rind. After a few minutes lime steps up front, tart and almost masculine then from out of nowhere comes a light hint of fresh coconut. I feel incredibly safe and contented. I’m getting a waft of light soft flowers, a little ginger and then a soft light, slightly musky skin scent with the lime staying in the background.
I’m sitting here at my computer, it’s grey and drizzly outside but Creeds Virgin Island Water took me on my summer vacation.
I think this would be great on a man or a woman.

Virgin Island Water is quite a fine spring/summer fragrance if you ask me - opens rather fresh and citrussy clear, then mellows down into a more floral base with a very distinct coconut note. Coconut is also what people around me have detected, and it seems that you have to like that in order to enjoy this scent. Personally, I think it works quite well.

I feel that this is definitely reminiscent of a tropical island - lying down in the silky sand, surrounded by nothing but the ocean and the forest behind the shoreline, drinking cocktails from a coconut.

Lucky enough to bump into a Creed rep and managed to get a sample.
Initial thoughts being another very light fragrance from Creed, barely giving out anything specific.
Coconut was all I was getting. Soon disapeared to nothing. Then 6hrs later, there it was again, smelling somewhat more pleasant.
Now it's 30hrs later and the coat from yesterday still has the pleasant coconut scent, along with some other notes ????
Have run out now but looking forward to further trials!

I first smelled Virgin Island Waters at the House of Creed in Paris where they sell it since December 06. I really love it and instantly decided to buy it. It is not typical Creed. It is a fresh lively fragrance with a strong coconut note. Even I use it right now and it is winter time on this side of the world, I would say it is a great summer time fragrance. When I close my eyes I can feel water, waves, sand and wind. It is not just a wonderful fragrance, it also last the whole day.
