Intimately Beckham Men (2006)

After being surprised by Instinct...I was quite interested in trying Intimately...and I have to say I am slightly disappointed.It smells nice,but it really does just fade very ,very quickly...that is a major flaw.I did take testers filled with me out one night to see how it faired if people could smell it..(after a top up)...and recieved alot of compliments,but....what can I say...If only it was stronger..It lasts well under an hour.

After sampling this fragrance I started to think in which occasion I could use it, but couldn't make any conclusion... Its initial notes are hard to describe and get better when the sweet nutmeg appears but seemed strange anyway. It's different enough from another recent launches but too different for me to purchase it.

I wasn’t expecting anything as nice as the opening. Intimately Beckham opens with a citrus / spice accord that is a tiny bit reminiscent of Cartier’s Declaration. I think it smells a little better because the citrus note is truer; however, the accord has little staying power and is pretty much gone within four or five minutes, leaving in its wake, a violet / spice heart accord. The heart spices are star anise and nutmeg. The star anise comes through quite well for me but I can’t smell the nutmeg. This heart accord has some pretty good longevity because it holds for at least a half hour. It is rather a generic take on violet / spice, but quite satisfying. There is a very nice smokiness about these notes, probably the result of the sandalwood and patchouli from the base. And, speaking of the patchouli, be make sure to apply this only to CLEAN skin – it doesn’t do well at all on skin that isn’t fresh from the shower. There is some strength to the heart notes: Treasure that strength because it doesn’t hang around for the drydown. The drydown goes the typical route of the modern designer / celebrity fragrance – it exists primarily in the imagination. Actually, there is a pleasant patchouli, sandalwood, amber, incense aura but it stays really close to the skin.

I guess I would say that Intimately Beckham is a couple of steps above many of the other modern celebrity offerings because at least it covers two steps on the pyramid – the opening and the middle, and it gives the base a really good try. To be honest, I rather enjoy this one – enough for a (reluctant) thumb’s up, even.

I adore this fragrance. Sophisticated and mysterious and usually reasonably priced. No very long lived however. I really do like this fragrance and was xpecting a lot less from a celebrity fragrance! However the quality is lacking and as previously mentioned this is notable in the lack of longevity in the fragrance

This cologne has very little originality in it, BUT, that having been said, I'm the sort of person who would rather have a good copy than original rubbish. Furthermore, originality is not always equivilant to good. I must say there's nothing bad about this cologne, its almost a remake of the old school. It has a very old fashioned, spicy nutmeg smell (the nutmeg does stand out)fashionable for an English gentleman- the sort of scent you might expect from a house like Roger & Gallet. So I'm rather surprised this is coming from David Beckham (not that I don't like him, I do respect and admire him). But as much as I like this scent, I find myself a little young for it at this point in time (I'm 21). Reccomended if you're in the 40 and over age group.
