Fragrance Profile
Eau des Merveilles (2004)
by Hermès
Basenotes says...
Probably could get away as a unisex scent. EdM contains no floral note and is its notes are upside down. All the woody-musky notes are on top, rather than the base of the fragrance.
The bottle is round with a silver cap.

A woody lemon cologne is a man's cologne. I cannot smell anything feminine in it. Reminds me of some masculine creeds, himalaya, green irish tweed on the dry down and erolfa at the end; probably because of the lemon and ambergris. 22 September 2008

I don't know what everyone is wild about. I have dosed myself over and over again and find this smells far too much like Vicks Vapor Rub, at least initially. It's hard to get past this. It is not complex, by any stretch of the imagination. The dry down is a bit more pleasing, however, I would never invest in an entire bottle. Oddly, it doesn't last on me. 13 August 2008

Opens with a blast of wood and citrus, with the wood burning off rather quickly. The scent delivers the salt promised, from the first note through the dry-down. I was, however, surprised and slightly dissapointed with the powdery softness of the scent. More "Tiempe Passate" than "Sel de Vetiver". The vetiver note, incidentally, holds on my skin through the drydown, tempering the powder. My husband thinks it smells like Holiday Inn soap, which is not quite the insult it sounds like. 12 July 2008

This was fantastic in the magazine sample and on my mother. It is defiantly for a strong, carefree chemistry. I imagine on some ladies it smells of old cologne! it seems a bit mannish on me, though it turned into a womanly scent on my mom. It is very nice, the notes all work together for a very sophisticated effect. Recommended for day wear, lovers of woodsy musk and orange. 23 April 2008

I tried the parfum. It reminds me of 24 Faubourg (which I did not like at first try) and reminds me of rotten oranges. 12 January 2008

Was so surpised by how much I loved the body wash when I got it as a gift that I ran out and got the parfum. Was addicted to it in the Spring and Summer and would agree that its close to being unisex although probably a bit too soft for most men. Usually I prefer the florals but the pink pepper and cedar really makes the bitter orange that much more interesting. A big thumbs up for summer or vacation to a sunny destination that won't overpower and is an alternative to the often too-sweet female scents out there now. 26 November 2007
