I know a lot of people like this, but I do not. It smells like some kind of breakfast pastry and does not last long. Thank goodness I bought a mini.

What HDS1963 said. CPH is a depressingly two-dimensional frag -- it's all about lavender and vanilla. Unlike every other lavender frag I've tried, though, this isn't a blended lavender -- it's a "jus de lavande" concentrate that comes out of the bottle with a roar, completely and unapologetically unadulterated. The lavender smells startlingly natural - if you've ever broken lavender buds fresh off the bush, this is exactly what it smells like. Sadly, this natural purity is also its downfall -- it doesn't feel like a polished EDT, like Jicky, but some kind of simplistic brew that your great-great-grandma would store in a little clear unlabelled bottle with a stopper in her Victorian boudoir. The nauseatingly heavy vanilla soon takes over, leaving you with a crude, somewhat confused juice that can't decide if it wants to be a bracing, heavy floral or a baking additive. Wear this if you're a little old lady living in a time capsule in the Provence, or spray on your clothes (again, only if you're female) -- but hard to see any man in the 21st century really wearing this. Bizarre that this is still in production, but can't argue with the facts.

The lavender is lovely, but the vanilla on the base made me sick. I prefer L'Occitan by L'Occitane. It is a much better lavender fragrance. This combination of lavender and vanilla doesn't work for me.

The opening has a sadly brief aromatic lavender-rosemary chord which gets overtaken by powdery notes. Then I find a really weird chocolate-rubber thing happening... like the smell of a rubber glove with talcum powder in it! Hmmm, don’t like it. The vanilla may be reaching up into the early stages. There’s a hay-like middle, probably from clary sage but this is not green or dusky enough to interest me. The dry-down is somewhat better, with bits of cedar and an airy amber-musk quality. But that doggone powdery note persists throughout. Vanilla and moss give this an old-school fern scent. I’d say get rid of the vanilla and powder but they are the essence of this scent and without them there’s not much left. A scrubber for me, I’m sorry to report.

Man, i gotta pull this back out and give it another try! All of these thumbs up for play-doh in a green bottle? i put it soooooooooo far back in my collection that i need reed richards arms to pull it back to the surface. but ill try it one more time when i dig it up, until then: THUMBS DOWN!

Foul, absolutely nauseating choking vanilla. Perhaps i've bought a "knock off" but this just smells of buckets of cheap ice cream. Disgusting.

Caron Ph is maybe the greatest disappointment I've ever had after wearing a scent! It opens with a very common and pure lavender smell that lasts 2-3 minutes and then the fragrance begins to mutate... It's like a fight between the lavender and the vanilla that produces a bizarre smell, really horrible! After some more minutes the fragrance stabilize and the result is a dated sweet powdery smell that lasts forever.
Thumbs down!!

As for me, it's a great disenchantment... After the quite common and traditional lavender top go away, you remain with a precise Shalimar's replica scent on your skin.
What for does exist a Shalimar like man's fregrance, if there's the original feminine one?

I tried this after reading what a "brilliant" creation this is. Or was. Maybe for 1934. But it smells a bit dated compared to some of the other fragrances out there.

Caron Pour Un Homme starts off with dominating notes of lavender - the lavender isnt as sharp as in Carons 3rd Man, but it is there and noticeable. The notes pyramid indicates a fragrance with a lot of variety and transitions about the various note levels - however, it seems as if the middle note phase is missing. As the top notes of lavender fade away, in steps vanilla...big time. This fragrance is all about sweet sweet vanilla. Infact, lavender and the vanilla are the two dominating notes. The sweet sillage that the vanilla creates can be cloying at times (and yes, it does last too).

While the mix of lavender and vanilla is well blended here, many will find this fragrance to be dated and just too sweet for men. I know that women like Caron Pour Un homme. But to me, this is just too two-dimensional and sweet to wear on a regular basis. Carons 3rd Man is where its at.

This is the scent that taught me a lesson I will never forget: Never think someone else's experience with a fragrance is applicable to you. To me, unfortunately, this fragrance is the only fragrance I hate. It's cloying, overly sweet and decadent. If wore in my office, my boss will fire me on the spot. The odor is offensive and vomitive. My wife found it a terrible scent. I bought it spoiled with its many positive reviews just to find out it became my worst experience ever with any scent. Lesson learned. Since then, I buy samples and try out decants before I go for the purchase. The frac is available for free to anyone, if the postage is paid.

The lavender and bergamot explosion induces a terrible headache on me, every time. It's better when the vanilla comes in and finally gets rid of the top notes. This scent has an amazing progression, but good god it nukes my head every single time.

It`s the only Caron I`m quite indifferent to. Lavender is too short on me, vanilla is too long and sweet. I`d better wear Eau Noire by Dior.
Still have it - just for comparative purposes.

One of the few fragrances I found to be vile and unbearable. The notes are discordant, the drydown weird. When I tried it, I couldn't help wondering what on earth were they thinking when they made this?

Its very gross and very dated smelling. When I was little my dad would take me to the local barber for a crew. I remember the smell of the cheep barbar aftershave they would splash on the guy they would shave THIS is what this stuff smells like.
Sicky sweet and loaded with lavender.
