Curious to relive the experience of Polo after wearing Polo Modern Reserve, I decided to wear them back-to-back. This is a woody chypre in the 1970's style, full of green, woody, and spicy-balsamic notes; jasmine, carnation, geranium, and rose for florals in the heart; then the whole is anchored by musk, tobacco, patchouli, moss, and woods. Indeed, it is redolent of the days of my youth. I remember it as sweeter, but then, maybe I was sweeter myself back then. I could have sworn there was a honey note in it. It still strikes me as a sporty scent, maybe not so young now as I remembered it; some of the stronger notes make it seem more mature. I don't think this is dated, but then styles cycle back through the ages, and while they say retro is only for people who weren't around the first time through, I think I'll chance it.

Sometimes you just gotta smell like a fresh-cut lawn, just to clear the nostrils a bit. Aaahhh.

Out of all the fragrances I have ever loved, this is the ONLY one that stays on my skin today. I used to wear Onyx in the 70's, and Halston in the 80's ... since then, everything I have ever bought smells lovely in the bottle and lasts around 2 moments on my skin - except JPG Le Male and THIS one ! It is so lovely to have people compliment me on my fragrance instead of thinking how I have spent a fortune and cannot smell anything ! Does anyone else have this problem or know of any other fragrances that are as powerful as Polo green for people like me ??

I would say Polo is one of the nicest fragrances I have ever tried and I have the feeling it will remain like that for another couple of decades.
I first smelled it during a trip to the US in 1986. I love it then and I still do. It is hard to think of a fragrance so right. It is round, perfect from its opening. Masculine, classy, elegant, green, great longevity, great sillage, great smell. I do not want to go over board with my comments but honestly I cannot think of anything negative about it.
(It takes some control with the amount one wears but that is it)
I am actually surprised this one got a couple of bad reviews in here because I have never met anyone that did not like it.
Every time I wear it I feel like a million dollars, powerful and full of energy, this is an awesome work of art.
This is a timeless fragrance a classic.

My goodness, this is such a hugely excellent cologne. Beautifully blended and laden with notes. I've just sprayed it after about 15 years and it almost brought tears to my eyes, jolting me back to the day, back to the memories. Polo Green is one of those that you don't dare smell close to the skin. Give it time to settle and evolve, revealing its kind heart, reminding you of its presence throughout the day. Even the bottle with its smooth lines feels just right. An undisputed American classic!

Ubiquitous, back in 1982, now in 2008, then in the USA, now everywhere in the world: one must have to agree that it is truly a classic. The right choice if you are looking for sillage and longevity around pined, woody notes, as well as compliments from women around you. However, this is surely a turn off if you prefer discrete fragrances, or even if you are curious and want to try original designs.
