I LOVE THIS STUFF!! My husband wears it all the time and it smells great layered with Bvlgari's Eau Parfumee au The Blanc body wash. The top notes smell astringent like to me but die down quickly. then it becomes kinda green.. it has great sillage and lasts forever. Thinking of wearing it myself. 07 September 2008

This one has got me many compliments in the past. I mixes incredibly well with my chemistry and I will always keep a bottle in my collection! I would call it my signature scent, but I've become obsessed with trying out new colognes that I don't seem to have a signature scent anymore! I'm not sure I've ever worn this without getting compliments...so as long as it's in production...it will be in my collection! 05 July 2008

For me it really on the moment of the day. The opening notes are strong, and they have something sweet. In th drydown comes the truth of Platinum Ègoïste. A metallic note, like the taste of blood. It's serious, but not teenager. 23 June 2008

The word "command" comes up a lot in reviews of this frag, and that's no coincidence. PE absolutely COMMANDS attention. Every time I wear it, nearly everyone is compelled to comment favorably on it. It's almost like a separate entity--you can't take any of the credit for the compliments it receives--you can only be happy for it because it's so popular. 26 December 2007

My mother-in-law and I both enjoy Chanel women's scents so when I decided my husband needed a cologne (he'd never owned any before) I naturally headed for the Chanel counter at Belks. This is a good everyday kinda scent for a guy, sexy and smooth but not intimidating or overwhelming. I love the sage, treemoss combination which is kinda heady but then there's the vetiver to ground it. Whether or not I'll get him another bottle when he's gone through this one I'm not sure, I can't say I'm in love with it and there's so many other colognes out there, but I do like it and would recommend it to someone looking for a nice scent that's not too homely or aggressive. 17 December 2007

Maaaaaan...Platinum Egoiste!!! Classic! I could remember wearing this and Paco XS, which I believe both were released in 1993. Everytime I smell this it reminds me of the Babyface song "For the Cool in You", which also came out in 1993, and maybe that's why?! But anyways, Platinum was one of the last "fresh, clean, masculine fragrances" released before the whole youthful/unisex trend came about in 1994, (ex. Tommy, CK One, Hugo, etc. etc.). Anything with that clean, fresh out the shower lavender soapy smell was great, but of all of those types like Herrera for Men, Paco XS, Eternity... Platinum was always the best. Honestly, wash your hands with a Lever 2000 bar soap, and the dry down of Platinum smells almost just like that! Real clean, but in a sexy, sophisticated way. I think I'm gonna have to buy a bottle of this cause talking about it, I'm missing it! Right now, my signature scent is Himalaya by Creed, if you like those classic clean scents like Platinum, Paco XS, etc. Himalaya is the best upgrade you can get of those. But overall, Platinum Egoiste by Chanel is one of the best EDT fragrances ever created, clean, fresh, classic, not too sweet and very long lasting, nice lavender top note too! Even The Notorious B.I.G. wore it: "...call em' on the phone 'n / Platinum Chanel colognin'..." lyrics from the song "NASTY BOY". 23 November 2007

Platinum Egoiste is often unfairly measured against its predicessor "Egoiste", however I find Platinum to be the superior of the two. This remarkable fragrance opens with wet, sharp rosemary/green accords. It is both rousing and commanding. The leafy heart is apparent here, and I find the use of my beloved accord geranium here to be one of the best yet. Its vetiver and mossyness play against the sharpness of the scent and balance the composition well. Platinum Egoiste is a scent that begets respect. One cant help but feel important whist wearing this. Its pronounced aura can be detected from several feet, even after light application. Its very unique and long-lasting qualities will ensure it a favourite of mine for a long time yet! 18 October 2007

An alpha male scent. This not fruity sweet like most other "today" men's scents, but it is very commanding and attention getting. While this scent is very multi-purpose and can be worn for any occasion, there are better scents for romantic evenings and cuddling with a lover moments. This is the one to wear to command attention, project confidence and leadership, and still smell complex enough to keep a woman's interest of what you are wearing in a romantic setting. Silage and longevity are quite good, and the sprayer is one of the best I have run across yet. 27 May 2007

This is definately one of the best colognes I have ever used. Longevity is excellent, far superior to the new sweet smelling colognes that usually last an hour. I easily got over 7-8 hours, and the tip about spraying on an undershirt really works. Two sprays to the neck, two to your shirt, one on the wrist and your set. No more, as this is a power scent in every sense of the word! If you want something masculine, classy and long-lasting, pick this up. 12 May 2007

Last night at a party, I recieved the best compliment I ever got before while wearing a cologne. I was told I smelled "like a million bucks" from a buddy of mine, and 4 girls rushed over to all smell me and they agreed 100%. All of them asked what I was wearing, I kindly replyed " it's Platinum Egoiste by Chanel" ...I highly reccomend this stuff :) 07 April 2007

Well, first of all, the similitudes with the original Egoiste and Platinum line starts and ends in his classic squared bottle. Second: I don't know why Platinum is often compared with Xs Rabanne and Herrera for men. To me, Xs it's a total failure, a dull mix between one mint note and soft sandalwood, which lacks in longevity, complexity and quality: a clear young-mass-market-stuff. By the other side, Herrera for men it's better: a classic blend of herbal notes and tobacco with amber. Very well made, more mature and classic, and very very formal (some people maybe could say "boring") and versatile. But Platinum Egoiste hits more. The opening is very strong and slightly synthetic (maybe aldehydes?), with a great dose of lavender mixed with citrus. But the effect doesn't last long: the smell starts to show his quality and artistry when the lavender relax his intensity and - at least on my skin - the Petitgrain or a delicious bitter orange note (Orange from Paraguay, as said in Chanel's web) takes the principal role. Lavender and Orange in a fantastic way!! The heart it's more hesperidic and floral than Herrera and XS, and more interesting. Geranium provides a floral heart which lasts long time, and a intense wood base ends the show with confidence and charming. Thumbs up, indeed. 04 April 2007

The best cologne I have ever smelled. I always run back to this one when I smell my dad's or my brother's colognes or the other's at the stores. It's light, manly, citrus fresh, sorta peppery. YET, it has great sillage and longevity on skin (8+ hours) and lasts for days on clothing. I was looking for WEEKS for a cologne. Something always was wrong with others... They smelt great but lasted short. They lasted long, but smelt way too sweet or musky. THEN I found Plat Egoiste and tested it a few days. Went back, purchased it, and I want to wear it everyday. If you're looking for a QUALITY, FRESH and MANLY cologne, give PE a try. Don't judge it on a paper tester. Wear it. ALONE. Walk in the store. Spray this cologne ONLY. Come back hours later desiring to buy it. It will happen. Ladies...Get this for your man if he's a classy, young, fresh smell loving man and cares about his presentation to others. PLATINUM EGOISTE= Sexy. Ladies I know (young ladies) say so. 25 February 2007

Welcome to the first review of a stalker of perfume counters. I'm not an expert on recognizing different 'notes' in a commercial fragrance, although I'm not bad when smelling them in essence on their own but I do enjoy describing feelings and impressions I have from scents. This would have to be the ultimate in men's scents for me. It's manly without that sharp 'sporty' smell people feel they need to stick into a man's fragrance, or that unpleasant citrus unisex which is the other extreme. One for the real men, this is classy and yes, timeless. It hangs perfectly between modern-chic and classic. There is a continental sweetness when you first breathe it in but damp smell follows that. When my fella wears it, it's just him, and his fresh sweat and part of his pores. Fits like a glove for him so probably terribly biased but oozes polish and gentlemanly charm. 24 February 2007

I recently heard rave reviews about Platinum Egoiste and decided to try it at my local Sephora. On my first reaction I thought it smelt very heavy and strong. I didn't like it AT ALL. The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th time around it smelt it, it started getting better and better! I just bought a 3.4oz full bottle and I tottaly love it! It's soon to be my signature scent! It's very citrusy and light, it's a sophisticated scent and can be dressed up or down. All year fragrance for long, I believe it's heavy enought for winter. I just tottally love it! 30 January 2007

I give this one a thumps up!!It's very versatile, can be worn during the day or at night. It gives you always a fresh feeling, but it's at the same time sexy and manly! I like this one. 14 December 2006

This is what I wear the most out of about 15 scents. It is sharp and strong at first, but dries down to a rich warm amber/wood on me. Sillage is extreme, use sparingly. Longevity is about 5-6 hours on me, which I consider good. I disagree with the posts stating it smells feminine. It is one of the few scents I own that I think is suitable for year-round day/evening wear, regardless of dress, and also appropriate for the office (in small doses). 01 December 2006

I keep going back and forth about Platinum Egoïste. Many times I think it’s great—fresh, lively, and unique. Other times its just too gaudy. It opens with a whole load of aromatics: lavender, rosemary, spearmint, coriander, and sage. Doubling the effectiveness of the aromatics, and giving them a metallic edge (to my nose), are loads of alehydes. This accord is quite attention getting—it’s sharp and boisterous, but it somehow manages to keep a tenuous grasp on Chanel elegance. The fragrance smoothes out with the floral middle notes by losing much of the aromatic sharpness. I find the middle notes rather abstract, at any rate it is an excellent accord—bright, energetic, and elegant. The dry down is a warm wood / oakmoss / vetiver—dominated by a cedar that keeps it in the sharp style of the top and mid notes, but increases the warmth of the fragrance. Platinum Egoïste has a cedar-smoky aura to it and lasts hours and hours on my skin. I do see the relationship between the original Egoïste and Platinum Egoïste: they both are extremely tightly constructed with brilliant, creative, and progressively related movements between instinctively appropriate accords. However, to me, Platinum Egoïste is not really worthy enough to be named after the phenomenal Egoïste, but it is dynamically constructed and elegantly audacious. 29 August 2006

Well, its warm and classy. It just plain smells nice and it dosent offend. However, i prefer platinum just because i guess it has more kick. Or, maybe its just because the scent appeals to me more. Just be sure to try them both first before choosing one. 22 March 2006

Wow, what an incredibly fabulous fragrance. This is one of those rare finds that is great when you first put it on, and seems to get more sophisticated, elegant, and down right manly as you wear it. This fragrance screams luxury, attention to detail, and professionalism. I love to wear it with a suit at the office (light application) or out for the evening with a date (an additional spritz works fine). This is expensive (and cannot be found marked down by very much on-line). Do yourself a favor, if you're mature (over 30 or so, I'd say) and want to really shine at work or for your significant other, give this gem a serious try. 28 February 2006

First of all, I'll say it's one of my very favorite colognes and the first I bought. This cologne is quite potent, but as long as you don't overdo it, it's great. It's quite spicy and masculine, but not traditionally spicy - it has a unique spice note in it that it carries all the way through its life from just sprayed until even the dry down wears off. I should also mention that Egoiste Platinum has good lasting power as well. I really have not smelled anything like Egoiste Platinum, and that's a good thing, as none of us want to smell like every other guy. It is not sweet like it seems is all the rage these days (ex. Dunhill Desire, Chrome, possibly Allure). In a time of similar copycat colognes, Egoiste Platinum stands confidently alone. The description of it says it's recommended for daywear but if you are a man (25+ yrs.) and are dressed properly for it, it can be for daytime wear though I suppose. I think when to wear this one depends on if you are dressed appropriately for it... dress too casual (jeans and sweater) with it and it can ruin it by seeming out of place. Overall it’s an excellent fragrance and I recommend it. 01 February 2006

Superb blend, although it has absolutely NOTHING in common with the oiginal Egoïste. Woody, dry and fresh at the same time. There is a smokey, burnt cedar vibe going on that makes it very original as well. A masculine, modern, clean scent - perfect for urban enviroments. The only thing resembling it is Decleor's Un Air de Java. 11 January 2006

ontrary to what the name says, there is not a lot of similarities to the original egoiste. This chanel for men it's a sharp fourgere that lasts a long time on the skin and on the clothes as well.It might recall a high profile bussiness man at first sniff. It might be too much for someone who doesnt like this type of scents. The good thing is that the drydown is amazing and almost animalistic and woddsy at the end, but read: King of All Elegant Animals, because the quality shows off a great deal. Egoiste the original is better for me (that's sweet-peppery and woodsy-oriental , so not alike at all ), but this is a very good one too. 09 December 2005

Until recently, I have somehow managed to avoid owning a bottle of this, even though it has been very popular for over a decade. It is Chanel's venture into the lucrative market of the early 1990's fresh and green, and it stands as possibly the best of that genre. This aldehyde laden gem sparkles as expected, but has an incredible depth that is quite a surprise. Rather than distinct notes, my nose simply detects an melange of sharp green, infused with the most remarkable wood smoke accord that I have ever experienced in a bottled fragrance. I do not experience the legendary longevity that many report. If I say the scent lingers for 5 hours that really would be pushing it. Platinum Egoiste is powerful, however. I find that 2 spritzes are more than enough to fragrance me and my immediate vicinity. On the whole this is a quite nice alternative to modern subdued fresh/green scents. 26 November 2005

My first fragrance was a Chanel fragrance. I still hold the view that CHanel is the leader in fragrances. In my opinion they are the best in terms of quality. Egoiste Platinum is bold, powerful, and masculine. It was my first fragrance, and I've been addicted to Chanel ever since. The fragrance starts off fresh and clean and then transitions to a spicy woody base. Definitely for a fashionable, sophisticated man. 05 October 2005

I just want to make something clear...CHANEL is known to use synthetic odors for their fragrances...Chanel is not guerlain or creed...in uing pure natural smells...BUT, HOWEVER!! THEY STILL ROCK!! Platinum Egoiste is one of my favorite fragrances of all time. Though their frances contain the alhydes...they smell awesome and girls GO CRAZY FOR THE SMELL...beleive me this is one bottle of fragrance every man should atleast once try.... 21 August 2005

What can I say about this one? Mmmm...mmmm.....good! It definitely has the smell of usual "department store". You know, walk into a department store and general wall of cologne hits you, however this one has a definite edge. Very modern, yet classic, fresh with a hint of warmth. Chanel is definitely living up to the name with this one. Generally good stamina to last all day. I find it good for daytime office or evening wear and even wore it when I was in university. As always, try before you buy. 19 August 2005

Platinum Egoiste is fantastic and is one of my signature fragrances. It is more suited for evenings but it’s still a great daytime scent. Platinum Egoiste is a superb scent for nightclubbing. To my nose Platinum Egoiste is much better than the original Egoiste, which has a gingerbread type smell I can’t stand wearing. I think people over 40 years old might prefer the original. I would say the smell is mature yet still very youthful and sexy. The two Egoiste scentes are COMPLETELY different... don’t let the names fool you into thinking they are similar. Platinum Egoiste like Azzaro Chromo is in my experience one of those scents which almost everyone likes, however I would say it is just a little bit more daring than Chrome. I think it would be best suited to people ages under 30 years. I think Platinum Egoiste is a fairly sexy smelling scent, most females really like it. Platinum Egoiste is strong at first, it takes about 20 minutes to settle down on my skin. I think it could have a bit more duration to it, it only lasts about 4 hours on my skin. Despite some people thinking that is it bad taste to spray your clothes, I find that it helps get that little bit extra duration out of this fantastic scent. I guess the only downside to this scent is that it is fairly expensive, but it’s well worth it! In conclusion, Platinum Egoiste is my favourite scent so far, thumbs up :D 04 August 2005

This is a superb blend of freshness and woods. Very balanced. nothing overstated. Just enough floral on the tope notes, and the perfect amount of wood. The cedar note is subdued, not the overly sick scream of found in Gucci Rush. Longevity is fairly good. It blows the original Egoiste out of the water. ;) 10 March 2005

What a lovely smell! Quite strong on the first application, but mellows out after that. Contrary to what some say, this is only a mid-lasting cologne, about 4-5 hours before traces disappear completely. Great for both formal and casual use, but not so annoying (ahem, Tommy by T. Hilfiger) which makes it quite perfect for school or office work, if applied in small amounts (personally, one spray will do). A must buy if you like deep, masculine scents. 27 December 2004

Platinum is the best. This is the real Chanel style. In the nucleus are the trademark aldehydes, which are awol in other Chanel men's scents. It starts off briskly, giving that bracing morning wash basin rush. Lavender and herbs announce the beginning of a remarkable inversion to come soon enough with a spiky smokey mystery that slowly infuses florals and aldehyde. But not to dominate since vetiver, moss, and wood develop soon enough to make this gem start to comfort and glow. 28 October 2004

Chanel is so good at this whole fragrance thing! i'm not usually a fan of fresher colognes (because it seems like everyone and their brother in my generation can only handle the safe fresh stuff i.e. abercrombie, issey, polo sport, curve etc), but this one stood out. its starts off with a tiny bit of spiciness, but overall its equal parts of dry wood/greeness and freshness. the wood/green becomes less pronounced after about an hour and your left with a clean fresh smell with a tinge of wood. this is a very well made fragrance. it develops about 3 times (bit of wood, less wood, no wood but super fresh). last a mighty long time! i put it on one morning and could smell it about 30 hours later (its not really strong, but it has very impressive lasting power). so fresh and so clean, clean! 24 August 2004

Awesome stuff! I also purchased Egoiste Platinum after reading the Cologne Guy's review (back when the original site was still up) and I haven't regretted it since. Sure, it may be a little expensive. But with quality like this, it's worth it. Great stuff to wear if you're out to impress someone. 17 July 2003

To experience only the top notes of this fragrance is to miss the whole picture. I actually find the first impression to be nauseating, but between 30 and 60 minutes after applying, it dries down to a kind of bay rum smell not unlike Opium for men. I've found that on me the scent actually reconstitutes after the base wears off: I smell all the notes together again, but without the initial cloying freshness. 27 April 2003

A very potent, enduring and good fragrance. Not for casual use, but works well in all weather. The drydown is MUCH better than the initial application. Incredible deodorant, equally long lasting and very much like the EDT. Nothing special about the bottle, just clear glass and a rectangle. The metallic box is nice though, and does suggest platinum. 23 December 2002

I begged for and received the 1.7 oz. bottle of this gem for Christmas last year. It exceeded all of my expectations and has been the source of many pleasing inquiries. It's great for work or for an evening on the town It's potent too, so it'll last awhile and you get your moneys worth. Two sprays and I'm good for the day. 15 October 2000
