According to Chanel this was created by Henri Robert in 1955 and was launched as 'A Gentleman's Cologne' in the UK, 'Chanel for Men' in the USA and 'Chanel Pour Monsieur' in France. In 1989 it was relaunched with the name 'Chanel Pour Monsieur' worldwide. Chanel insist that the formula remains unchanged since its launch in 1955 -- though US beauty industry news reports in 1988 claim the scent is new and was created by Jacques Polges. Hmmmm.. curiouser and curiouser...

There must be something wrong with my bottle because after a pleasant citrus opening PM literally disappear, even with ten sprays on my wrist and only one spray of blenheim bouquet on the other wrist (to be sure my nose is working properly) , i can't smell anything where PM is supposed to be, maybe new reformulations have spoilt such a classic scent !! So don't buy it blind like me but try before. I followed Luca Turin book but I have been disappointed buy his choices so many times that this is the last time. 01 November 2008

Very lovely fragrance indeed although it is not very strong or long-lasting. The citrus opening is debonair and well-rounded. The middle notes are a tad animalic for my taste, but the base is musk, vanilla, and amber, which lends to a very soft, refined feel. 26 October 2008

Expensive, old fashioned smell, bad longevity and awful projection. Created in 1955, but we are in 2008. Absolutly out If you like clean fragances, try something modern like Terre d Hermes. Without doubts. 22 September 2008

A chypre of distinction that has become a classic over the years. I find it a pleasure to wear this on festive occasions, but it even feels good just to wear it to work sometimes. The top notes are dedicated to the citrus clan, the middle to the spices and herbs, and the base notes to the woods, mosses, and roots. This is as it "should be" for men's scents: refreshing, intriguing, grounded. Yet this is a formula that gave a new face to male elegance in its day: lemon, verbena, and petitgrain replace the traditional bergamot for citrus; the base note forgoes patchouli for vetiver — and so it has passed from innovative to classic. 21 August 2008

This is a very classic chypre type of masculine scent, fresh opening and slightly sweet dry down. It has the longevity of a typical EDC, so it is perfect for day wear and for when I want something light and lovely. It's a shame that it has been discontinued in the States. I'd better get some in Europe before it gets pulled all together. People may find it blasphemous, but I actually prefer the smell of the Concentre over this one, although to be honest comparing the two is comparing apples to oranges. 18 August 2008
