Bulgari pour Homme Extreme (1999)

About five years ago I wore Bulgari Pour Homme on a regular basis. It's a deceptively seductive scent that people, both men and women, are drawn to. It's also almost weightless in a way. The first time I smelled it I was almost shocked to discover a note that reminded me of a certain bodily fluid, but it works here somehow and manages to smell extremely clean and healthy. The edges are very dry, cedary and smoky. I somehow feel like there is vetiver in this as well, though I don't know if it's in the notes. The overall effect is almost salty, like parched driftwood or salted, roasted peanut shells. This is balanced with a smell reminiscent of cool, wet clay.

My bottle of Bulgari PH was getting old and I'd left it in my car a few times too many. It was starting to go off, so I stopped wearing it. I was always planning on getting another bottle. Yesterday I wound up getting a big bottle of this Bulgari Pour Homme Extreme and I have to say, I like it a lot. Not far removed from the original-- the main difference I get is that this one has some substantial grapefruit at the opening. The longevity was great-- it lasted well through a shower into the next day.

This scent, along with PH and Soir, all smell pretty similar. These scents create an aura which is persistent yet almost invisible. Extremely classy, persuasive and yet reserved. I can't really think of another fragrance that could be confused for something from the Bulgari PH collection-- these are in a class and family of their own.

Absolutely foul! Imagine getting your dog to eat half a dozen lemons and a packet of teabags and then smelling his breath, you would experience something quite close to Bulgari Extreme. Strong, sour lemon with a hint of dog breath. Revolting.

A winner. The more I wear this the more I love it. It goes on with a wonderful crisp citrus and a background of the famous tea that so many talk about (and I adore so much). The drydown is much, much more intense in my opinion than the original and more reminiscent of a powerhouse scent of the 80's - albeit with much more restraint and not so obnoxious - very dark, green, and grassy with being cloying in any way shape or form.

IMHO, this is a perfect day/office scent - it goes on crisp and wonderful and as the day goes on, it slowly becomes much more serious - dark and handsome - debonair, if you will.. I LOVE IT.

RECOMMENDED

This enigmatic fragrance is, as other reviewers have expressed, not concentrated BPH. While similar, it is very different as well. The opening is grapefruit, tea and pepper. It is quite an opening, but the initial pungency is lost quickly, and for the next few hours is quite an aroma, which starts to move closer to the skin, becoming an "inimate" fragrance. I like it very much, and rotate this regularly. It is both suitable for evening, as well as office.

Heck of a lot better than the "original". The crazy naming scheme here is bunk. There's nothing "extreme" about this. Smells nothing like the original. The original is much more peppery and abrasive. This however is subdued, more green/herbal with more citrus and, yes, the infamous Bulgari's tea note.
